All,

Trying to take advantage of black friday deals.  I have a 9 year old daughter that wants her first spinning rod.  Any recommendations for a good first spinning rod/reel that threads the needle between decent enough gear but not too expensive in case it is damaged, etc.

I'm looking for a medium fast action that could be used for plastics and small swim baits.

Thanks,

Rick

I'm throwing out a range of $100 or so, unless there is a compelling reason to go above.

My recommendation is pick your favorite store with black Friday deals - dick's, tw, bass pro, walmart, etc and find a combo in your price range.  Ugly stick, berkeley, Abu garcia, 13 fishing, lew's and bass pro and others all have usable stuff starting at about $35.  Any cheaper than that and you'll probably end up with junk.

I'm thinking about a Daiwa Revros LT for reel and then see about a rod.  I agree about checking all the merchants in this price range.

Diawa Aird-X. I've used a 6'6" M/F the past couple years and it's really a good rod in that price range. Just upgrading this year to a Dobyns Fury.

I'm seriously thinking about the Revros for an ultralight build.

Daiwa Revros or Legalis with an Aird-x was what came to mind. Should be able to get for less than $100 total with the BF sales going on. It’ll honestly be nicer than any comparable combo in that price range.

I like my Revros, but sometimes I don't feel the drag is very smooth. Takes some pull to get it moving.... then again, it's a budget reel so.... anyways... just my .02 cents. It's not very expensive so I think it's worth the money, and worst case, enjoy it for a few years and fine tune to something you like more.

I don’t know.  How is it done?

This may not be what he means...But if you have a backordered item sitting in your wishlist already, it will let you add it to your cart and checkout. But if you just go to the item and try to enter a quantity the field is blocked by a question mark.

That said I'm not too fond of their backorder system. I've had baits I've backordered before seemingly get "forgotten" about, where they'll come back in stock but I'll only get them after sending a reminder email that I ordered them a while back. Which is fine, but it's a pain to have to track what baits I have on backorder and then go back and try and find the order #.

I got fed up with their backorder system last year. Two items backordered on BF, first one came back into stock only two weeks later. Beginning of March the second still wasn't in stock...and they don't ship backordered items until they're ALL in stock. Other places DID have that second item, so canceled it from TW and ordered it from someplace else. TW shipped the first item immediately.

Now if something is out-of-stock when I want to order it - a Plano box this year - I remove it from my list and order it someplace else. In this case from Academy...and I get it tomorrow.

That is one easy way

Thanks, never knew that.

So placed my order this morning at 8am at TW, received order received email, money left my bank, and still no conformation email. Should I contact them or wait?

I'm giving them until Monday. My order was accepted even earlier.

I didn’t get the confirmation email either but am not worried about it, it’s TW. They are better than a site where I got a musky rod from with communication. That site I got the rod in 4 business days and never got a single email from them.

All I got is this...

"Some items shipping directly from the manufacturer. Other items are invoiced but not shipped yet."

No shipping date, no tracking number.

Log in to your tw acct. goto order history. Click order details. Click track order and it will show a ship date and tracking will be updated when its available.

Order details are available immediately after you place an order. If you dont see your order, there’s an issue with it.

That quoted text WAS from the Order Tracking Page.

You should have items listed in your order history. If you’re not provided a ship date, you’re probably getting items drop shipped from the vendor. Dobyns does this alot for example during sales.

Which items would be drop-shipped there? This is about 1/3 of my order

No idea. Says your shipment is a multipiece but all the stuff there would fit one of their small boxes.
The 3rd column says all of those items are shipped though.
