In 2018, PayPal and eBay worked together to implement a solution to comply with laws that require eBay to collect and remit tax on applicable transactions. Those transactions that require eBay to collect tax are currently divided into two separate charges - one for the item purchased and another for the associated tax.

Effective November 2019, PayPal and eBay will change the way these transactions are processed and how taxes are collected and remitted.

For transactions that require eBay to collect tax from buyers, the tax amount will be included in the gross purchase amount to be processed. Once settled, the tax amount will be automatically deducted for remittance to the applicable taxing authority.

You do not need to take any action.

Seems like Ebay is charging sales tax for all its products. This makes ebay less attractive and will move (at least more of my spendings) to the local shops that are now more competitive. This sucks a bit, but I think it will benefit the local (US) stores, which I am ok with.

To be clear, eBay (or any online retailer) does not charge taxes, the US government does. That being said, 34 states are now enforcing the Internet Sales Tax, so you can get used to seeing this everywhere.

Everything I see in NY state tax laws applies to commercial or retail businesses.  I am not a retail business.  As an individual, items I buy from out of state, but used in NY state are subject to a use tax, not sales tax.  The notion that I have to collect/pay sales tax for a garage sale is a little silly, and not enforceable in any way.

Here is the use tax info for my state.  It's pretty interesting what can be taxed.

Minnesota specifically exempts 'occasional' sales. So someone having a yearly garage sale, or selling something personally on the net - like the 'sale/trade' topic here - is specifically exempt...so if I sold something here, I wouldn't have to collect sales tax.

NY does not differentiate which type of entities (i.e. a business as a C-Corp, LLC, or simply an individual) are subject to sales tax. It's the transaction that is subject to it. https://www.tax.ny.gov/bus/st/subject.htm

Use tax isn't a notion, it's statute and it's voluntary compliance that 99.99999999999999999% of individuals do not comply with. It's enforceable if you're under state audit and its requested as part of an information document request, but more typically it's not asked for.

Close, but it's the states that impose, levy and collect sales tax. There is no national (re: Federal) sales tax, although it has been proposed many times.

Good point, lots of these mom and pop sales are exempt under certain threshholds. Sales and use tax compliance is one of the biggest headaches a business needs to comply with...that's why I use an outside firm to handle our compliance. It's worth every penny to pay someone else to do it.

Been there - ran a custom cabinet-making business for a while...custom fit bookcases, display cases, curio cabinets. I did my own taxes and luckily my wife has an AA in Accounting.

I got an email from FeelFree Kayaks today announcing clearance pricing on Moken and Lure kayaks.

I have  ‘14 and ‘18 Lures 11.5’s and love them. Their Overdrive works great.

d**n those are some pretty good sales as far as kayaks go. I'm still split on whether or not I want to save up for a peddle drive yak or wait a little longer and get a john boat setup.

I thought the same, but decided on the kayaks.  I’m glad I did.  FeelFree’s Overdrive gets me almost 4 mph pedaling normally and can be removed/replaced with a storage pod when not used.  I leave the OD unit home when I fish shallow, weedy ponds.

The drawback to a kayak is that it’s a single seat.

Best of luck deciding.....

Unfortunately OOS in all RH models (when viewed on a mobile device - on a PC it doesn't indicate stock when you make a selection - odd).  $69 shipped for the Fuego CT is a nice deal.
