The Hook Up Tackle has some great deals on demo rods. Some great deals on some very nice rods (even NRX). Says they have very light use...maybe some water spots, light wear (dirt) on cork. Blanks and guides are perfect condition. Rods will be detailed before shipped.

Dick's Sporting Goods (I know, I know, but this is pretty good) has three Dobyns Champions on sale.  One casting (DC 702C) is $161.  That's the final price.

Two spinning (DC 703SF and DC704SF) are on sale for $199 but for today only you get $10 off every $50 and it applies to these rods.  They have a $10 "oversize" shipping fee but $180 is a good deal for a $250 Champion IMHO so I had to buy one.

The extra $ off does NOT apply to the casting rod for some reason.

Thank you Big Angus! Serious score! The "extra" did apply for me. $131 for a Champion XP....Schweet!

You must’ve gotten the last one because the website doesn’t even show a casting version now

Now, just gotta pray it gets to you in one piece.  Dicks rod shipping has been horrific in the past for me.  May the odds be ever in your favor.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Different places. Call in at the mayor stores and ask for their best price.

Dick's has YUM Dingers on sale for $1.97 for 5" 8 pack (maybe they are always on sale?). It says on the website that you need to buy 5 for that price, but I walked in the store and it didn't matter how many I bought. I bought 2 initially, then came back and got 5 more for backups and to give to a buddy.

In-store color selection was very limited but there are tons online.

That's Dicks for you!  I'm shocked they can stay in business.  I received the rod I ordered today and it is in perfect condition but it's always a toss up.

Must be some mistake. They probably have a new employee who hasn't had the "how to punt merchandise into the truck" training yet.

Seems like Ebay is charging sales tax for all its products. This makes ebay less attractive and will move (at least more of my spendings) to the local shops that are now more competitive. This sucks a bit, but I think it will benefit the local (US) stores, which I am ok with.

To be clear, Ebay is just falling into compliance with several states that recently passed legislation to charge sales tax on retail internet sales.

So I paid sales tax on a reel ,then whomever I sell it to has to pay sales tax again?  I'm not a retailer.  Makes more sense to stick to the FM here.

If you sell it through a platform like Ebay, then yes.. Or if you're a reseller, you can apply for a state tax exemption and avoid sales tax until the point of retail sale.

Technically, sales in the Flea Market are subject to use sales tax as well via self reporting.

I believe that if you sell it, you are responsible to pay the sales tax on the item whether it is through amazon or the FM here.  Retailers charge the sales tax to the consumer and pay it to the governing body.  If you make the sale you are supposed to pay the tax associated with it even if you didn't charge it to the next consumer.

There’s an “occasional sales tax exemption” for folks who don’t sell products on a regular basis. Anyone selling as a business or what can be deemed as a business must pay tax. Whether new or used goods
