Dang you guys cost me 54 bucks at Academy just now......can confirm the SLX rods are basically half off.   Lots of the H20 lineup was marked down...not heavily though.     Some other things were marked down as well, but nothing like these rods.

Only knew about them because of this thread the other day, and they had two 7" spinning models, and a 6'10 baitcaster model.      I have no clue about these rods as I just back into fishing, and this is the cheapest rod I've bought so I hope I didn't just blow some money.

Hopefully you guys can help me on something......I'm not a spinning reel guy, but I've heard that this Ned Rig is the rage these days, and a 7" spinning setup with braid and a leader is the way to go.  This is partly the reason why I gambled on a budget class rod.    Can you guys recommend me a solid reel to match the price range of this rod be it 50 or 100.     Lastly what's a good braid to run on it?....not a braid guy either lol

Daiwa Fuego, Exceler, or Legalis are solid reels in that price range. They can all be found below MSRP.

Nice, I'm mainly a Daiwa man, so I'd prefer to go that direction.    This rod is so "loud" though that it will clash with anything but a SLX reel I'm sure....good thing rod looks don't catch fish lol

If it’s the blue that’s so loud on the rod then Legalis might look OK since it’s also blue…if that matters.

naw it doesn't, if the performance is there, that's all that matters.   It's the blue one though.   The handle and seat are great, it's just that obnoxious blue accent that isn't aesthetic.

thanks though as I'll read about that reel now as well

Any current sales on Jackhammers? Need to load up on the 1.25 oz.

You can get 15% off at Omnia with the code OMPUNCH22AUG if that helps. And they dont charge sales tax.

Unless you live in MN - crazy laws...since they have a physical presence here, they have to charge tax to MN residents on the mail orders too.

How you fishing these big boys, deep I assume?

Thought the same thing when I saw that post earlier.    Heck I can't make myself buy 3/4oz stuff.

I'm just getting into chatterbaits after pulling my biggest fish in years off of one, so I'm not sure of all the techniques, but it seems these would be killer flipped into weed lines....if that's the case, then a big model like that makes sense.

Curious to hear the answer, as I'm trying to learn more on there usage.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I hate to start a separate thread...

Are there brands that aren't discounted often, or deeply?  Like Ping golf clubs for example.  Or maybe certain high-end lines of gear?

I've only been fishing for a couple months, and looking for sales or discounts less than that.  I bought a couple of Daiwa Exceler reels for ~30% off, but I'm guessing I'm not going to find a Shimano Stradic for 30% off (non-JDM)

I've got some gear on my wish list, but not getting a good deal steals a small part of my soul.

All the major players have GREAT sales during the holidays. The next BIG SALE will be

P.S. Starting a new thread is FREE!

I buy the 1-1/4 oz Jackhammer, take the blade off then put the blade from a big blade chatterbait on it. It allows my to do 2 things:

1) make bomb casts which I am learning more and more to appreciate increase the likelihood of bigger fish; and

2) get down into thicker vegetation that a light chatterbait will just get caught in the tops.

At my reel speed the 1-1/4 oz rides at about 4-8 ft below the surface depending on the trailer.

I think Shimano has something where they don't allow retailers to promote bigger sales. Im not 100% and may be wrong, but I know for a fact Academy has Shimano reels on sale 1 week after their regular spring fishing sale for everything else but they don't list it online or in print ads.

I’ve seen posted elsewhere that Dicks has SLX rods in store for $35, cannot confirm as my local dicks never had anything good

I don't think that's exactly right, I think I remember seeing an ad once, but I do think you're right about the once a year part. I don't know what their policy is, but I would be interested to read it.

Those SLX rods are probably one of the best $100 rods out there today and at $54 they are absolute steals IMO. As far as reels go, for the baitcaster I'd honestly get a Shimano SLX reel...those reels are phenomenal at the $100 price point, quality reels (typical Shimano) and you can't go wrong. As for the spinning reels...many choices there, Daiwa Regal, Daiwa Legalis, Shimano Sedona, Shimano Sahara FJ and another one that I just recently read good reviews about and I believe is on sale in various places is the 13 Fishing Kalon Blackout. If you want a purely black reel to match basically anything that would be a good choice too!

I wanted to pick an SLX rod for $60 at my academy, but there’s only been one and it’s a broomstick cranking rod I don’t need.

I really, really wish companies would stop using FedEx. I have no idea why they're still in business. Anytime I'm expecting something from them, it gets delayed..and delayed...and delayed.

I'm waiting on an order from Omnia. I'm in WI, they're in MN. I was supposed to get a package on 8/18. Then it got changed to 8/19. Then that didn't happen so it was then 8/20. And now it just says "pending, no scheduled delivery date at this time". Pathetic.

Rant over.

aka they don’t have your package anymore. Friend of mine received that note on a package for a week before he called and it was determined the delivery driver stole his package.

Not so fast. I got a text update this morning saying it's now made it's way across the border to Eau Claire. It's now "delayed" there. But hey, at least it's in the correct state!

Baby steps. Literal baby steps. Maybe I'll get it before the lakes freeze over. ?

If you have an Omnia Premium Membership, they just sent an email thanking their members and they are giving members a $10 gift card. You just need to spend $10. Awesome.  Free stuff.
