Scrolling through the Academy clearance sale.  Anyone know how long this lasts?

If anyone has any insight on their in-house brand stuff worth trying (including clothing) please give me a heads up!

I have quite a few of their Magellan fishing shirts and hunting camo...always served me well, FWIW.

Academy's online deals kind of suck in the last couple of years. Back in the days, I had scored a Lew's BB1 reel for $60, some Columbia fishing shirts for $4 a piece, and a tons of other quality tackles in dirty cheap prices.  Now they have one clearance after another, but mostly for sports clothing and sorts, not many solid tackle deals. I heard their stores down south still have some great deals occasionally.

I have to agree. The clearances at Academy have not been the same the past few years, very lackluster. Not many real deals and the selections have been underwhelming. Also, it seems that Academy is not restocking some of their best H2O Xpress lures and the ones they are restocking are not up to the same standard in terms of finish and overall quality. They haven't restocked many of my favorites and their entire saltwater lure line is practically gone. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come but just a result of this crazy pandemic and supply chain issues.

Are these a quality brand? Never heard of them.

Just got my order in today, 11 days later. Fedex took a bit. The speed craws are huge. Didn’t realize they’re 5” lol. It seems the plastic is not salt impregnated. Advantage to that is the bait will most likely last longer. Might even be neutrally buoyant and float a little. Doesn’t have much scent. Smells like plastic, covered with unscented worm oil. Overall I’m pretty happy with the purchase. I’d say a steal at $1.50/pack. I think the craw will act just like yum money craws. And the beaver looks like it will act like a beaver.  The toads are hard to tell, just never seen that design before. I believe pro angler Casey Scanlon owns the company, so it can’t be too bad. Just hard to test right now with hard water!

Thanks for the feedback! It’s often tough to judge a brand when they are smaller, glad you took the plunge and I’ll be ordering some bags at some point to test them.

Thanks @A-Jay.  I've still got a lot of life left in my Guidewear, but have been considering an extra full set.

My Insulated guidewear has seen better days as well.

Most relegated as 'take the dogs out' gear now.

Over Black Friday I scored a Simms Challenger Insulated Fishing Jacket & Bib Set.

Really nice, a little pricey but I'm pretty sure it will be most awesome.

Can't wait to try it on the water.

If you're shopping for one, I'd consider it

Was the uninsulated version on sale too for Black Friday?  I am looking for a set of these but seems like they never go on sale, even when places have a 20% site wide sale.  Simms brand is always exempt.

Not sure.

Also while Black Friday was the time frame for my purchase,

like you noted, it seems Simms gear is rarely 'on sale'.

I initially thought my purchase was on sale, ended up being the MSRP.

I was happy however to find a vendor up north here that was actually able to get me a set in a 'medium'. I had been 'looking' hard for a few months up to that point, and it wasn't look good.

Not sure what the current supply lines look like.

AJ, I have stopped into this shop a couple times.  I have a buddy whose family buys so much from there that they get an insane discount on everything.  The shop is smaller but stocked with quality gear.  Of course it is surrounded by lakes everywhere, so a solid location.  Glad they could help you out.

This gear in that size, medium, was a bear to find at the time.  I spoke to these folks on the phone a couple of times as they were waiting to restock it.  They could not possibly have been any more helpful & friendly.  Worked out great and I would not hesitate for one second throwing by business their way in the future.  Highly recommend.

Any word on a TW Presidents Day sale, or anyone else for that matter?

From what I see on the TW website’s sale page, it says there’s a sale that starts Friday, Feb 18.

Bass Pro has a sale on Strike King Ochos. 30 pack for only $6.99. This is a great deal! On TackleWarehouse, you'd pay $4.59 for an 8 pack, so $6.99 for 30 is a steal. If you include tax, it's 25 cents per bait vs 62 cents. I checked out the Ocho's underwater action on YouTube, and they've got a nice shimmy. It's very close to a senko.

This has happened before and is why I have like ~2 dozen packs of SK Shellcrackers.  I saw them on clearance and freaked out that they were being discontinued.

Happened to me when someone here (you know who you are) said he thought the Jackall Archelon was being discontinued. I panicked. I now have about 100 bags.

Hah.  Man, if you want to do a little swap DM me, I think I am ready to let a few bags of Shellcrackers go.

If you don't mind the CC accident last year, TW is doing a sneaky sales right now: a lot of things 25% off, including Steez CT SV, Steez Air, St.Croix rods....

Would you quit bringing that up?  I said I was sorry!  Geesh people just can't forgive and forget anymore!!!?
