You lucky - my store didn't stock too many higher end reels, and the ones that were on the display rack that you could actually hold, about 90% of them were missing the spool tension caps.  Somewhere, some clepto has a collection going.

The closest academy to me doesn’t even stock chronarchs. Or any other high end gear. A Fury and Curado are about the most expensive combo they have available lol. 

 

I went to academy and checked to see if they had anything new on sale. They didn’t. But I still spent $48 on full priced items.

Picked up 4 of the new Strike King Red Craw Deep Diving squarebills at Academy last night on clearence for 2.48 each.

I checked one Academy today and they had practically nothing left. They have moved a ton of merchandise in the past couple weeks. I found a couple nice shirts at 75% off that made it worth the trip.

 

Also I lost a lure today that I got at Academy on clearance a couple weeks ago. Very first cast, brand new. A topwater lure, into open water. Apparently there was a really large barely submerged branch, and when the lure hit the water it must have dived enough to hit the wood and somehow get hooked. I could not believe it.

When it comes to Walmart, sometimes that works.  Sometimes, if the SKUs are different and they ring up differently, you have to get lucky enough to get an associate both willing and able to adjust the pricing to the lowest.  That doesn't always happen.

Finally made it to an Academy.  Almost all fishing clearance was gone by this point, except lots of gammy weighted hooks in the 5/0-7/0 range (I think) and a handful of SK french fries.  Obviously, this was a nationwide thing and they have sold out most of the gear at this point.

Worth calling them if you live a good distance away.  They seem to way be more responsive and helpful on the phone than most big box stores, and you can find out if anything good is left in clearance before making the trip.

I just grabbed my 3 crankbaits, said thanks, and walked a away.

Some do for sure. One of the employees I spoke with said at there's they give them first shot. He literally had a cart 3/4 full behind counter he was telling me about. It was aggravating in one way but if I worked for them I'd do same

I see others jumped on the Academy sale! Some good deals were definitely to be had. I went to five different Academy’s in my area and purchased 5 x Abu Garcia ALX at $50 apiece, 5 x Shimano Citicas at $70 apiece, a Cuarado I at $60, and a Lews Mach II for $35. 

 

DSG also had some of their 13 Fishing Omen 2’s on clearance. Bought a 7’1mh and a 7’3mh for $60 and $75. 

 

I also went to a bunch of DSG over the weekend and most of them had a good selection of clearanced lures like elite chatterbaits, KVD 1.5, 6XD, and tons of ducks and frogs. Good deal on tackle with their buy 4 get 1 free!
