punch Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I got out for a couple hours this morning before work. Water is was around 70 and I was expecting a good topwater bite.. but nope. Nothing. The wind started to pick up so I tied on a big kaitech swimbait with a 4ot weighted hook and I got some nice bites. Caught a nice 3.6lber and a few 2's. Only was out for about 2 hours. 1 Quote
NathanDLTH Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Very nice! Glad you could get out. Quote

If I do encounter a 7 lb bass while in Minnesota I'll be getting measurements for a mount lol! Heres a vid of the guy I used to get out with quite a bit. He recently moved to Wisconsin in hopes of getting to the southern states to fish all year long later. This is what MN big bass look like. I can attest that that is indeed all of 7.5!! If you watch his other vids, I am Mr. P on some of the titles. 2 Quote
Fiske Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Wow! Well there yah go Ronnie! Me thinks you spent to much time chasing MN walleyes. Quote
geneoh Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Went out late morning and fished for about 2 hours today on Lake Johanna and got skunked. First time fishing Lake Johanna so I was trying to figure it out. No bites until my last spot and had a 2.5-3 pounder on but she jumped and shook the hook. Would like to get back out there next week and try again. EDIT: Anyone who's fished Lake Johanna want to go out with me next week? Quote
pitchin fool Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Yesterday's hog. She tipped the scales at 5-4! Didn't get into a lot of them, but this one made the say sweet. Another big frog bass in the books....hope this bite keeps rolling! Quote
punch Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 That's a hog! Nice job, what kind of frogs do you like? I was out for a brief stint the other night and caught 4 fish.. 2 on a frog, 1 on a bluegill spinnerbait with a kaitech trailer, and 1 on a splitshot rig dragging around a zoom lizard. Bites were few and far between. The water temp needs to drop already.. it actually went UP. Last weekend my local lake in the north metro was 70, then I go out Wednesday night and it was 73. Not cool. Quote
NathanDLTH Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Geneoh-Johanna is difficult for first times, try looking for weedlines and hard bottoms. I had the opportunity to fish Johanna with a gentleman last Sunday and the key for us was a rocky flat. We were using green pumpkin jigs with zoom speed craws. Pitch-that's awesome man! I have yet to hook up on a frog this summer. Punch-that's not fun at all. Looking for info on Minnetonka, taking part of the Take A Vet fishing. Thanks to Punch for linking it. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted September 17, 2016 Super User Posted September 17, 2016 Those fish in the youtube videos posted by pitchin' fool are ridiculous. Feider is in the lead after day 2 at the AOY Elite! 1 Quote
pitchin fool Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 Punch...I use a plethora of frogs. I am not that picky. The best bang for the buck is a pad crasher, but the fish I have been getting have all been on the kvd frog (which I didn't like before). It's my thinking that they are after the rattle noise. I am trying to just move the rattle when working the frog, so almost as if the frog is shaking on top of the slop while moving slowly. It's been the ticket. My two favorite frogs would have to be live target and spros. 13 hours ago, gimruis said: Those fish in the youtube videos posted by pitchin' fool are ridiculous. I like how all his videos (but more of the ones with me in it ?) are edited to just show catches and don't have his personal preference of what he calls music. Nothing I hate more than trying to watch a video and there's some crap music taking away the experience. Quote
NathanDLTH Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 Any info for fishing Minnetonka? Bass of course. Going out tomorrow. Quote

Fiske Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 My first 20 incher (4.7) lbs this year,,,taken around noon on Saturday,,, she had several chunky 16 to high 18's hanging around with her. 3/8 oz rageblade WT 66.2 degrees Depth 4.5 feet Quote
Fiske Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 On a smaller lake yesterday from 2 pm until dark with little to show for it. Water was 68 degrees and the cabbage that produced some decent fish this year is starting to die back. I did lose one jigging deeper water off the lake's main point that really felt good,,, but who knows. Beautiful eve to be on the water though,,, Quote
NathanDLTH Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 I realize this about the Minnesota state and fishing. That being said I'm contemplating selling my Shimano Clarus MF 7'0". I would be interested in a trade for a MH 7' for a similar value. The Clarus is brand new practically, owned it since July of this year. PM me with phone for pics. Like the rod, just decided that I perfer MH over medium action and being that I have 3 set ups they need to be versitale. Quote
Fiske Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Hey Nathan,, Have a Falcon BuCoo, Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 Micro Guide, and a Fenwick Silver Hawk all in MH but not interested in a trade,,,,however if you can't make a deal with the Clarus, you may want to consider a Silver Hawk. They're currently on sale at Cabela's for 59 bucks. Actually it's been more of a perpetual sale. I like mine a lot and use it for jigging. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted September 25, 2016 Super User Posted September 25, 2016 Holy RAIN! My gosh some places got 10 inches of rain last week. So I get to the access this afternoon and there's about 15 feet of water between the parking lot and the dock and the water is knee deep, plus the entire lake is NO WAKE. Luckily the water is still pretty warm though so I got out there for a few hours. It was like fishing at high tide! All the areas I used to fish regularly are in deeper water now and people's yards are half underwater. Well we did catch 6 bass and 2 pike in about 2.5 hours, including a nice 18.5 inch largemouth. Beware of very high water though. Quote
dsidle61 Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 We have some nice cooler temps rolling through this week. We have been getting teased with 40 degree nights followed by 60 degree nights. This is my best time of the year typically. Spinnerbaits and topwater buzzbaits are the trick for me this time of year. I typically despise jig fishing bc of how slow it is but this is the year I stick with it! Quote
Tlauz Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Got out for about 4 1/2 hours today in the Bemidji area. Fished 3 hours on one lake and caught 8. Switched to a smaller shallower lake and caught 10 in an hour and a half before the rain came. Most fish came on Strike King KVD 2.5. Most hits came on the pause as the bait was floating up. Tried throwing a spinnerbait and couldn't get any takers. Water temp was 61 degrees. Quote
Super User gim Posted September 29, 2016 Super User Posted September 29, 2016 Boy, I'll tell ya there's a good bite out there right now. And you don't need to finesse them, just use a moving lure and keep it moving. They'll hit it with willingness Quote
Fiske Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Glad there's been a good bite for you but it's been tough around here. Pounded a lake for six hours yesterday,,, high, low, and everything in-between with only two shows,,,a 17.25 and 19". Caught them throwing a spinner bait into the reeds of all things. A last resort out of desperation sort of thing. Not complaining though,,,the 19 incher jumped twice and generally fought like hell in the 62 degree water,,,,, of course the coots were not impressed. 1 Quote
geneoh Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Went out for 6 hours this morning. Lake was busy with people fishing. Caught 7, a few bass, a few northern. Pretty much all dinks. I felt like I had a hard time finding them. I worked the shore, flats, weed edges and drop offs. Everything I caught was on a moving bait (Whopper Plopper, spinnerbait, swimming a jig). Ready to work a new metro lake. Quote
FishingMN Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 found a 4 around 2lb mark on weed edges, 2 on a plastic bait and 2 on a square bill crankbait. 7 ft water, evening. Quote
pitchin fool Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Today was just one of those days that you dream of fishing. My buddy and I got into a slough of em and some really big ones too! He got his on spinnerbaits and paddle spins (something he came up with on the fly), I got all my good ones on a war eagle 1/2oz jig, and a bunch on a shad rap. Top five fish between the 2 of us as follows...5-1, 5-1, 5-2, 5-2, 5-4. Plus a 4-15, 4-9, 4-4, 3-12, and a 3-6. Numerous others in the 2 range and a plethora of dinks. 57 fish between the 2 of us in all! CRAZY! Quote
