Super User Jeff H Posted October 1, 2016 Super User Posted October 1, 2016 Wow! Great day of fishing. Good job! Quote
Fiske Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 I've never had that dream pitch although I have hallucinated that this is the day that's going to cough me up another 5 pounder or better. Congratulations to you and your buddy,,, the Linder boys couldn't have done it better! Quote
OperationEagle Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Pitchinfool apparently u caught all of the fish. I was out at dawn until 1:30 pm and had only one northern to speak of. what a disappointment as the conditions seemed right for a good day....especially since it's fall. In fact I didn't see one bass in the water all day. Some days I just don't get it. Water was 62 degrees. Senko, jig, swim bait...nothin'. I prefer plastics over hard baits so I didn't try those. All boats on my lake were essentially skunked as well. Quote
Tlauz Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 Got out for 6 and 1/2 hours today. Caught 18 largemouth, 1 smallmouth, 6 pike. Best 2 were 4.5 and 5 pounds. Three hours of the day were cloudy and I caught 22 of my fish during this time. When the sun was out I couldn't get them to bite. Most fish came on white swim jig with soft plastic minnow and KVD 2.5 crank bait. Water temp was 52 in the morning and 56 when I quit. Overall a great day. Quote
Super User gim Posted October 2, 2016 Super User Posted October 2, 2016 Geez, fishing reports all over the board here. Good, bad, and everything in between. Looks like a big weather change coming later this week. Quote

Are you far north MN? Thanks for the report! Sounds like an awesome day. Quote

Sounds like an awesome day. I was on Chisago last Thursday and water temps were under 60 deg most of the day. I think the warmest I hit was 60.6 just before I left at 2pm. Was 57-58 when I started at 8am. Quote
Tlauz Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 I fish in Northern Minnesota. North of Bemidji. I was low 50's in the morning and 56 ish when I quit at 4:30. Had to get in water to launch and load boat. It was chilly!! Quote
OperationEagle Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Holy cow those r some honkers there tlauz. Nicely done! today was so much better. Caught numbers today instead of size. Largest was about 16-17 in. Typical transitional time of year. Found many up shallow. Also many a little deeper like 14-16 fow. Early morning the docks were productive. Then hit shallow areas that were still shaded by the sun as sunny areas did not produce at all. jig, black and blue flake senko, and a white swimbait did the trick for me. Water was 62 degrees. Quote
punch Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Nice job Tlauz! I got out a couple times this weekend.. crainkbaits, crankbaits and more crankbaits. Caught numbers in 5-10 feet over vegetation. My DT4 and KVD 1.5 got a work out. I didn't need to slow down and toss plastics because they were smashing the cranks. Fall bite is kicking in. Quote

My buddy and I got into a slough of em and some really big ones too! He got his on spinnerbaits and paddle spins (something he came up with on the fly), I got all my good ones on a war eagle 1/2oz jig, and a bunch on a shad rap. Top five fish between the 2 of us as follows...5-1, 5-1, 5-2, 5-2, 5-4. Plus a 4-15, 4-9, 4-4, 3-12, and a 3-6. Numerous others in the 2 range and a plethora of dinks. 57 fish between the 2 of us in all! CRAZY! What an awesome day! A 20 pound bag is a great day in MN, but a 25 lb 10 oz bag is for real! I hope you guys stick one of them 6 pounders now that those 5s are caught. Days like that are awesome when you get to share them with someone else. I will be up in Minnesota in two weeks in hopes for good days like those. Keep posting your success and water temps. 2 Quote
Super User gim Posted October 7, 2016 Super User Posted October 7, 2016 Went out last night and caught 6 bass and 2 pike. Several times when I was up in shallow water I would hear/see a bass explode on the surface nearby feeding. After that happened a couple times, I finally caved in and gave the frog a try. Nothing. I cannot get a bass to attack a frog this season. Its so frustrating. They're even feeding in shallow water and they still won't take it. Regardless, at least I did catch a few fish including a nice 17.5 incher. Water temps north metro 63 degrees. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted October 7, 2016 Super User Posted October 7, 2016 I have never done well in the fall throwing topwater of any kind. I no longer bother with it. It's kind of odd because this time of year the frogs will usually start to migrate back to the water before it starts freezing up. Quote
FishingMN Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 maybe try a walk the dog, buzz bait, or popper on those near surface bass. Of course calmness and low light will be important. 3lb'er today. water temp 65. What temp does it really start to pickup? Or is it a weed die off thing? Quote
NathanDLTH Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 Was fortunate enough to have a member take me out fishing Wednesday on their boat. We were fishing for a solid 3 hours. Lots of bites on the swim jig, dt 4s, and top water at the very end. Biggest bass came on my kvd 1.5 in citrus shad, swim jig produced lots of pike from 16-26inches. At the end the whopper plopper brought in 5 fish; 2 pike and 3 bass. Overall a good evening of fishing. Quote
Fiske Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 Been finding numbers of small bass in realitively shallow water because wind has either forced me there or has kept me off the water entirely. I suppose 10-30 fish under 14" with most under 12 are better than nothing but I could do that all summer long up in the shallows. Yesterday was another bust,,,length wise. WT 58,6 to 57.8 degrees,,,largest bass 15" The fish were sluggish including the 4 or 5 small pike that half-heartedly hooked themselves. 11 AM update::: ,It's 38 degrees,,,wind W at 20 gusting to high 20's,,,and I"m really lamenting the end of summer Quote
Super User gim Posted October 7, 2016 Super User Posted October 7, 2016 Yikes. Just wondering how late into the season ya'll fish too. I usually winterize my boat the last week of October regardless because I'm busy hunting anyways after that. If the weather is still tolerable in November do you guys keep bass fishing? Quote
pitchin fool Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 I have fished as late as November 20something....if it ever hits high 50's and not super windy....its on! It's amazing how aggressive they can be when it heats up like that out of nowhere. My buddy I was fishing with on my last post is hitting that lake again tomorrow. It's my weekend to work, so I won't be making it, but I hope he gets into them like we did previously. I hope to make it out sunday for a little bit. I seen your vids on youtube many years ago while searching Minnesota bass fishing. As soon as I saw all those hogs you were pullin, I kept saying that I will have my day like that sometime. I guess this was one of my days. Can't wait to hit it again, and yes, I feel that 6lber in my very near future!!!!! 1 Quote

Your fish looks like it is from the inside of one of the main points on that lake...plus the smaller size fish in high abundance is typical of fiske lake... Quote
Tlauz Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Got out for 4 hours today. 10 bass, 1 pike. Most fish were 13-16 inches. Biggest 19 inches. Water temp was between 50.2 and 53 degrees. Most fish were in the 4-8 ft. KVD 1.5 and 2.5 caught all but 1 fish. Windy and cold!! Probably get out 3 more times before boat gets put away?. Quote
Tlauz Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Fished 4 hours again today. 13 bass, 3 pike. Caught 5 on white swim jig in shallow water (lost 3 jigs to pike bite offs), 4 on a DT 10 fishing deep weeds, others caught on shallow cranks. Two biggest today were 18 inches. Warmer today than yesterday. Water temps were in the 52 degree range. Planning on getting out next weekend once and that may be it. Had to work hard for them, but any day in the boat is a good day. 1 Quote

It's Lake Anna. Seriously,,,Fiske is probably the only lake in OtterTail Co. to have a 24" bass turn up in a DNR fish survey. Pike's-ville yesterday....10 or more with two 26 inchers, one 27, and this one at a little over 29. 8 or 9 bass all under 13" although did lose a decent one on the jump. WT 55.6 degrees and a pleasant NNW breeze at 10-15 In retrospect,,,stayed with a shallow crank longer than I should have and ran out of daylight, Quote
