Buffdaddy54 Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Hey guys, went to my local BPS with the intent of buying GYCG Fat Ika's which they did not have. So in talking to one of the sales guys he recommended I try a Chatter Bait. He said that where I fish they do very well. I did not get a chance to ask him how to fish them because he was busy. Soooo how do you fish them? Quote
riverbasser Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Much like a spinnerbait or swim jig which is basically what it is. Burn under surface or slow roll deep. I like to count them down and run them just fast enough to feel the blade vibrate. There great around grass as well. You can use any trailer but my favorite are boot tail swim baits. Get out on the water with them and you will get used to it pretty quick. Quote
avidone1 Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 fat ika's are an outstanding bait. I rig them with the skirt up and no weight . they will 'swim' away from you as they sink. casting to the edge of a weedline allows the bait to get under the weeds in a very natural way. I've caught some big bass on it. Chatterbaits are great lures' too but one is hard and bladed and the other is soft plastic. Nothing similar about them at all. Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 21, 2016 Super User Posted May 21, 2016 Buffdaddy enters the holy place known as BPS, asks the employee: " excuse me sir, do you have a Coke ", employee replies " sir, we do not have Cokes, drink water instead " because you know, both quench thirst. Nothing to do one thing with the other. That being said, imagine a chatterbait as something similar to a spinnerbait. BTW, Berkley Subwoofers make an excellent Chatterbait trailer. Quote
S. Sass Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 I don't think the guy was implying the baits were the same in any way. He just did suggestive selling by offering another bait that they had. "he recommended I try a Chatter Bait. He said that where I fish they do very well." 2 Quote
Buffdaddy54 Posted May 21, 2016 Author Posted May 21, 2016 S.Sass correct, he was not comparing the two, he was suggesting I try them because he and others have had success with them at the lake I mentioned. Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 There are plenty of excellent videos on YouTube you can view. Brett Hite is one of the tour pros that excels at fishing a Chatterbait. Quote
