I have a Johnny Morris carbon lite reel, am thinking about getting an h20 mettle, a ethos 6"6 med heavy, and a 7" med fen wick. If I get a mettle, should I put on the fenwick cause it's in a 6:3:1 which isn't ideal for t-Rigs and stuff or put it on the ethos? Thanks and sorry about the long post

Is that good for t-rigs? Sorry I'm not the most knowledgeable.

My man, you can fish T-rigs with any reel.

A 6.3 and 7.1 are both very well rounded ratios, but even more important is the inches per turn.  Let's assume the 7.1 is about 29 ipt and the 6.3 is 26 ipt then I'd use the 7.1 for t rigs and the 6.3 for moving baits.

The gear ratio is 7.1: 1 but what is the IPT ?

I've used 3 to 1 for trigs in the late 70's. Speed has its benefits but in no way, shape or form is it needed for this presentation. You are a line watcher right?  IPT is the key over the actual gear ratio numbers as manufacturers differ on this a good deal.

Use your 7 for trigs and the 6 for squares and jigs, rattlebaits..either or.

X2 ~

Yup and that's because one fishes a T-Rig with the rod - not the reel.
