Well i got my first super spook jr (bone) a while ago. I tried it out a bit but haven't got any strikes. I'm doing the walk the dog motion you're supposed to do. I'm somewhat concerned that it is too big for the bass in my pond (12-16"). The lure is 3.5" I believe. How big is too big for smaller bass? Anyway i'm gonna try it again soon since topwater seems to be heating up and its the only heavy topwater i have. (I like casting distance). Any tips would be appreciated.

I can't improve on the thread Choporoz linked to, but I recently caught two sub-12-inch bass walking the 4.5-inch Rebel jumpin' minnow.  Had tines from the rear treble in both the roof of the mouth and the lower jaw.

Bass are predators....if they think they can eat it, they will. You'll have dinks hit baits bigger than they are.

It's not too big. Some guys I know catch a lot of dinks on Huddleston swimbaits

I've caught 8" bass on 8" swimbaits.  Just know that larger baits tend to get less bites but better quality fish.

If I knew for a fact there were no fish over 16" I would probably stick with lures under 5". But the spook you are using is fine and should get bit.

Really can't go too big.  Especially for big fish, which are looking to maximize the return of their energy output.

Thats me . I can work a spook like a pro . Walk the dog , half step it but I miss more fish than I catch . Try a different top water like a  floating minnow  heavy enough to cast , Bomber Long a for example ..

just comes down to the moment and the bass mood. some days a 4" senko is too big.  some days a 10" worm is too small.  experiment and learn to read the clues they give you

One of the things that "bothers" me about my everyday lake is that most of the days I just can´t keep those 6" bass away from my Zara Spooks and Sammys or my 6" swim baits for that matter too.
