I don't have any light action rods and would like to get one for roboworms and other finesse style fishing but only in a casting rod. I hate spinning reels.

Ive been looking at the Phenix M1 in ML/fast and it feels like it would be just about perfect,

I was also looking at the St Croix Avid X 7' medium/moderate crank bait rod and it also seems like it would be good for this but Im wondering if the moderate tip would be a little too soft for twitching around roboworms.

There aren't a whole lot of casting rods in medium light that I can find. I really like the Phenix M1. I own one n the Inshore series. Also the Maxim series is a heck of a rod for $110, even comes with Sic guides.

Any recommendations? If not Ill pick up one of the light action Phenix Rods.

The phenix m1 is a good choice as well as the other one your talking about.  I have a klx finesse rod that I like a lot.

The rod power rating medium light is misleading and more for marketing. Lure weight rating can also be misleading again more for marketing.

Casting rods in power rating 2 are usually called medium and close to what you are looking in a finesse casting rod. Loomis and Dobyns offer 2 power fast rods and Master Craft Don Iovino has a finesse medium casting rod that is about 2 1/2 power that works for this application.

I have a Powell Max 701c laying around if you are interested. They are discontinued, but I picked it up in an auction a while back. Nice little rod, I just don't have a use for it like I thought I would.

The bps carbonlite med works great for me. I have the med and med light in 6 1/2 ft . The med  light is too soft to set the hook for me but the med is perfect and cast un-weighted trick worms with ease.  I guess they offer it in 7' as well.

I'd get the Phenix m1 I own several and love all of them.

Ive decided to get the Phenix..either the Maxim or the M1. Ive been fishing an M1 Inshore model for swimbaits and heavy swimjigs and I can't put this rod down, I love it.

Have you tried one of the Phenix Maxim rods? Im surprised at what you get for the price of the Maxim series.

You don't see $100 rods that come with SiC guides very often

Yes I own a maxim H for frogs and jigs it's an amazing rod for that price but the m1 is better. I guess it just depends on your price range...

Love the Phenix M1!  Still bummed out the last guy on the forum that got one on member recommendations had his rod break on the second cast :(

I've got about every high end rod type out there and my favorite rod by a mile is my Phenix UMBX 707ML.

I bought an 893 NRX and the 707ML to see which one I would want more for those lighter weights and it wasn't even close. On that flip side I got an 894 NRX recently and I've had the 707MH for a long time and I can already tell after two trips the 894 is the far superior rod.

Tons of companies make great rods, but as far as ML casting rods the MBX 707 got it right.

TFO has ML casting rods. I have the "GTS DSC733-1". While I do not use it that frequently it will put a small lipless crankbait into orbit. I pull it out in early, early spring in an area that smallmouth bass like to roam. It is a blast to hook up with a lively one at the end of an 80 yard cast.
