Finally got my 85 4Runner in presentable shape.

Any Yota guys on here?

No toys at my house just Chevys. But back then I thought the little trucks were cool. Several friends dropped V6s and smallblock V8s in theirs. It was like the truck grew a pair over night.

I'm currently driving my 11th Toyota. I have been an owner since the 70's.

I'm on my 3rd Toyota truck, a '06 Tundra with 141K on it.  Toyota bought my '99 Tacoma back in '09 with 165K, and with exception of the frame, looked new.  My wife had a '00 Runner we traded in '11 for a Wrangler Unlimited because we wanted a convertible but weren't going to buy a 3rd car.  The 4-Runner had 135K on it when traded and looked/drove new.  All said & done, we've gone 26+ years, 400K+ miles and have never been left by the side of the road.  

My Tundra was built here, as was the alternator (a Denso unit, with "made in Shelbyville, TN" stamped on it) and the flexible brake lines (I always replace them with stainless - no matter what I drive). My only gripe is Toyota is notorious for OEM only parts, which are TOO expensive.

I like GM trucks very much.  They drive great and with few exceptions, are bullet proof.  I did a case study on GM while working on my MBA and learned that they'd built multiple factories and increased manufacturing partnerships in China since taking their bail-out (TAXPAYER $$$$).

I'm not a big Dodge fan, and like Ford, but Toyotas have been good to me.

I have a hard time giving an American company $40,000+ for a new truck knowing what they did with their bailout money.... Just my opinion...

I've wanted one for years but cannot afford one. Back in college my buddy had a  89 we beat the living snot out of rock climbing and mudding. 

 

I used to to have a 97 tercel coupe with the 5 speed and a set of 245 cooler weather masters on it. Car got 40mpg and went threw the same mud all the wheelers did. I wish I still had the pic from when I drove it up the creek and parked it got out and was fishing for salmon while standing on the trunk lid.

What motor?  4.7L?  Hope you changed the timing belt ...  mine looked worn @ 135K

Its had a water pump,  radiator,  front differential,  just had the parking brake fixed 3 sets of brakes, 3 sets of tires and a serpentine belt

My in laws had a mid 90s yota suv with just under 400k. Engine ran smooth but everything else was dying left and right. They traded it in towards a Ford to pull a boat.

Those little 4x4 yotas. The older ones anyway can last over 800 to 900k miles. Only time I will ever admit to that though. I honestly don't care for newer toyotas. I personally find them hideous. I prefer ford and chevys.

Dream would be a Ford Raptor or a new Tundra, reality is gonna be more like a older model, I can't afford to be picky with my budget. Trying to save for college is my priority at the moment.

The timing belt is part of the 90,000 mile maintenance.  I had a 2002 Tundra with the 4.7 liter engine.  I never had any repairs required but I did do regular maintenance so I had the belt replaced.  I sold it to my brother-in-law last Fall and bought a 2016 Toyota Tacoma V6 4wd.

I agree that the newest Tundras don't have the best look but they last forever.  I do like the look of the new 2016 Tacoma and it has more horsepower and torque with the V6 than my old 2002 Tundra had with the 4.7 liter V8.
