KVD is still a relatively young man and an outstanding basser.  His legacy is not yet complete.

The one I wonder about is Rick Clunn.  He's a legend for sure, but is he tarnishing his reputation by continuing to have poor showings in tournaments?

I like him. I really like his approach to fishing, but tournament fishing is competitive fishing.  He can't just "tune in" to the fish, he needs to work his ass off and catch em.

I really think he lost his burning desire to win.   If so, he should hang it up, write articles and books, go on speaking engagements or something.

Just sayin'.............................

This Rick Clunn? The one who just won an Elite Series event at St. John's River at 69 years young? Yeah, probably should hang it up

After all his talk before the season started about caving in to the need to seek out information....I hope his St John's win wasn't a result of that.

what's with the trolling accusations here at BassResource.com?  someone says something a little critical and it's assumed to be a troll?   How about we put our big boy pants on and stop this whiney nonsense.   I pity the fool who shows up at a tournament with this kind of thin skinned whimpyness   The dock side trash talk will have you crying for your mommy.

Actually, no I didn't.  A win at that level is quite achievement and I give him all credit :bravo-009:

I guess my post was motivated by my personal disappointment in his lack of dominance in recent years.  I suppose my thinking is that when you are the undisputed king.  And yes, I know Roland Martin disputed this when  the all time great list came out with Clunn at the top, but it's like when Muhammed Ali started to fade as a boxer but couldn't stay out of the ring.  Yes, he could still win, but he was only a shadow of himself and that was just sad.   I feel the same way about RC.

I'm an admitted fan of Rick Clunn. so when someone posts a comment asking whether he is "tarnishing" his reputation by still competing AFTER he has just won the 1st Elite event of the year it makes me wonder if someone is trolling. Put the shoe on the other foot and see how it looked. Someone with all the facts wouldn't make such a comment. Sorry to offend. I'm not sure where all this whimpyness, whineyness and perceived trash talk is. All I said was that he's 70 years old and still competitive. He may not win all the time but he is a factor IMO.  I would love to be competitive at 70. So I say GO Rick! Have a nice day. Tight lines to you!

Clunn is one of the few Elites , not from the west,  that fishes Western Bass Open at Lake Mead nearly every year when it's over 110 degrees, he is great physical condition and desire to win.

he is the best ever, period.  Dude is amazing and has been not only competitive but winning.

To me this post is a total troll because the "legend" KVD finally won a tournament in the exact situations that were pointed out in other threads about his demise and this is an attempt to tarnish the best of all time.

See my comment on the KVD thread..

Both, KVD & Clunn are great ambassadors to the sport..even sweeter? They have both won Tournaments this year.

Put that in your pipe & smoke it, lol

His reputation will never be tarnished , the records speak for themselves . I do think tournaments are different  now than when Clunn dominated . Clunn is perhaps my favorite tourney angler . It was all about his knowledge and instincts  . Todays anglers show up with waypoints on their depthfinders supplied by who knows , its just a different game .

I agree with you that he is fading, like him or not look at the facts his level of production has gone down... big time.  But that being said he is competing against

best bass anglers in the world and is still qualifying for the Elite Series, he simply has a passion for the game and just wants to keep going he does not have to ride off in the sunset like people would like, hes doing what he enjoys and I am all for that
