Awhile back I talked about how 95% of my medium and deep diving crankbaits are old school, and I have a lot of them. Well I just expanded my collection with colors I didn't have but look good and I got them at a ridiculous price. My Walmarts fishing section is small, but they have those cardboard boxes with discounted tackle and it is usually the cheap version of the Cotton Cordell spots but not yesterday!!! I cleaned them out of one of my all time favorite mid depth crankbaits, the Bomber 4A and 6A and I got them for $2.99 each!!! I got colors in each that I didn't own and this is where the information comes in, it turns out I didn't have those colors because they aren't listed, they are made in certain "off colors" just for department stores. Now, I'm not sure the colors are Walmart exclusive but I was told they only sell these colors to stores and I'm assuming department stores as I never saw them in a tackle shop or even Cabelas or BPS. The new colors I got were "Chartreuse Pearl"  "Chartreuse Craw" and what they told me was Tennessee Shad but since I have that in color in every Bomber I own I can tell you it is a different version, a lot more olive green than the regular version. The lady that is in charge of that department also happens to do the ordering and she told me those were the names of the color on the invoice she got. Another bit of info, don't be afraid to ask for a better price if you are going to buy a bunch or stuff or something they can't get rid of, in this case these were marked down to $4.96, I asked the lady if she could manage to get it knocked down to $2.96 is I purchased all of the baits, so she called the manager of the entire store who happened to be there and they said, $2.99 was the best she could do, SCORE!!!! For those that don't know, the Bomber model 4A and 6A are $5.29 and once in awhile the are on sale for $3.99, so now I just added eight new model 6A and six new model 4A baits. I use the 4A a lot, it is great in rocks as it takes more of a beating than the DT-4 or DT-6, and the 6A is what I will use heavily in the next 3 weeks or so when the fish move out to the first break from the spawning areas, it drops from 3' down to 6' and 7' and I can get the 6A down to 7' on 10lb Big Game.

Good information.  When it comes to clearance or discounted fishing tackle at Walmart, I have also found that it never hurts to ask if a manager can improve on the price; also, it's always smart to check the price before you get to the register, and again as they ring up the items.  Plenty of discounted items are labeled one way, but ring up another.

I always find good deals in Walmart bins when I'm on vacation or traveling. Fishing buying is very seasonal/regionally specific on what sells, what is hot, etc. In my area the Walmarts suck anyways but a lot of the anglers are using some of the same stuff so there isnt great clearance stuff in the first place and what does get marked gets bought. But Ive been in walmarts across the county and just 4 hours north and the anglers are used to different stuff so I cleared out certain styles of baits that buyers there didnt want.

I thought I was the only one who did this...  Walmart never ceases to amaze me.  It seems to me that stuff just pops up from time to time with no good explanation.  Walked into one that is out of my way and they had decent rods (by Walmart standards/my standards; Quantum KVD, Skeet Reece, Falcon Jason Christie etc) in a huge pile in clearance, but not marked down. Went back the next day - all gone!  Then, in a more local Wal-Mart, suddenly the mother lode of mid-range ($60-80) spinning reels appears in the store.  On clearance!  It seems like there is no rhyme or reason to when deals pop up there.

Ridiculous prices can be found there for sure! A number of years ago, I bought more gamakatsu worm hooks than I will use in 10 lifetimes, at a dime a pack, I think I ended up buying 90 dollars worth, give or take. Have 5 Vendetta rods in the fishing room that I bought for $11.99. I always roll through the fishing section when I get sent out for dog food. 99% of the time, nothing but.... Every so often I need to explain why I spent $200 to get dog food

LOL! The fun thing about explaining why you spent $200 on fishing stuff, when you were sent in to get something totally unrelated, is that no matter how the conversation (or argument) goes, we always walk away with a mental smile knowing fair well we're not returning it and whats done is done :D

Funny thing though.... We have no kids and, as such, have a generally disposable income. She is big into doing her nails (its not cheaper than bass fishing) and vintage My Little Pony stuff (I know lol, but also not cheaper than bass fishing). So... Its perpetually "my turn". I just get eye rolls when I come back with 900 pack of hooks or 10 rods because they were a good deal. Usually, I buy what I want with no repercussions from the war department. I still do get a hard time once in a while about the laundry basket full of hooks though.
