How to fix a broken rod tip?

Well I Snapped off about 4 inches on my 7'3 *** today laying the smack down on a fish that was deep in a laydown and don't want to send it in because of shipping and don't want to throw it away. How to fix it?

You can try and exchange it at Gander or K&K locally if you got it there by chance.. Otherwise just call the company. According to a lot of people on here, they are very easy and good to deal with.

I got the rod last year and don't have the receipt and I highly doubt gander would do anything about it. Not a fan of gander but I did get it there when they were on sale. As for the 75 dollar replacement fee through 1 3 fishing I might as well buy a new one lol. I was thinking I could just shave it down a bit. I lost about 4 inches so its not drastic.

By all means dont throw it out.  Ive replaced tips on several rods, in the same situation for friends, and the rods are still in use today. Just make sure the area isnt split farther down. Just like carbon arrows, a split rod is a accident waiting to happen. Just clean up the area for the new tip, so the end is flush. If the tip is pretty close to the next guide,you may want to remove that guide also. Your rod will lack some tip sensitivity, but it will still function. Adjust your drag also. get you a fuji tip repair kit (available at a lot of places, walmart, gander, cabela's, dick's sporting goods, etc.)  pretty easy to do it yourself honestly (if i can do it, i assure you that you could do it)

I'm going to make sure it's not frayed out and if it's a clean cut I'm going to just repair it with what you said. Lol

from what i have encountered loosing 3-4 inches off the tip of a rod dramatically changes the action.  it may function but i doubt it will still work for the application you were using it for.

4" seems like a lot and I imagine it would it into a broomstick.

4 inches off a fast action Rod will substantially change the action (slower) and lure weight range (raise the lower end). It may still be useable bit nothing like it was before.

I've been pretty unhappy with any "repair" to a broken rod tip, even if it's only 2".  Bottom line, if it's a cheap rod, trim the remaining blank and put on a new tip-top.  You'll have a rod that might be useful for something, but maybe not much.  If it's a high end rod with any kind of warranty still in effect, I'd definitely send it back for an exchange even if it cost $50.  You'll be happier in the long run.

I will repair the end of a rod that has a parabolic bend such as a crankbait rod.  You won't notice much if any difference with these rods. On the other hand, jig/worm/creature rods will typically be affected because they have fast/extra fast tips where the bulk of the bending occurs in the section of the rod near the tip.  See diagram below.
