Mike1324 Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 Hello, I am interested in buying another rod to add to the collection and was thinking about picking up a Skeete Reese. I noticed that they are pretty cheap these days and was looking for someone who has used these rods before. A couple questions I have are... Are they durable? I have heard varying opinions. Specifically, how is the swimbait rod? Thank you for any input. Mike Quote
BaitMonkey1984 Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 I have the crank bait rod. Love it, loads up the rod great and no issues with durability or the eyelets. Great sensitivity too. 1 Quote
lo n slo Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 i have a wright & mcgill tessera jig/worm rod. best casting rod that i own and have had no durability issues. Quote
mojojojo Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Id personally never buy anything with his name on it just for the fact that he seems to think he is Gods gift to mankind. The guy has a serious ego problem and wants everyone to look at and admire him. The rods may be fine, but its a big no for me 2 Quote

Super User kickerfish1 Posted May 16, 2016 Super User Posted May 16, 2016 I had one several years ago that was a fluke rod. Didn't care for it or the guides. They are a $100 rod and fish very average. Never had any durability issues with it though I fished it for a year and sold it locally. If you can find one for $50 and don't mind the guides and the yellow blank, by all means go for it. Quote

I can say I avoid buying products or going to stores that I don't like how they operate. Now i don't know anything about Skeete so his name on a product would not sway me either way. Hell I have seen some real ******** on facebook pimping products they are on the prostaff of that has caused me to not want to try the products or to stop using them. At the end of the day there are dozens of similar products on the market at similar prices for almost everything fishing related. style and how the companies act toward the public go a long way. 2 Quote
Yudo1 Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 I uséd to have a spinning model that was called the senkos model. I was pretty disappointed in the sensitivity. It felt like a glass rod. I sold it. Now my buddy has the drop shot model and loves it and says it's very sensitive. Idk, everyone has their own opinions. Quote

I respect that and am somewhat the same way. For instance, I never purchase anything from basspro simply because they are driving up the prices on everything and are trying to eliminate the competition by attempting to buy cabelas. Quote

Was able to try out a friends crank bait rod today and was overal impressed. For $60 seems like a good deal so I think I'm going to pick one up. Thanks for all the opinions. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted May 17, 2016 Super User Posted May 17, 2016 Skeet's crank bait rod is the only one I would consider - for other techniques there are better choice at or slightly above in price . 1 Quote

The rods may be fine, but its a big no for me FWIW, a buddy of mine was a marshal on Skeet's boat at an elite event a couple of years ago. He said Skeet was gracious, thoughtful, and down to earth. Skeet was very open and informative about what he was doing on the water. He even pulled out a couple of Lucky Craft Crank Baits and autographed them for my buddy's grandkids at the end of the day. 5 Quote
Yudo1 Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 I don't think it's fair to make judgements about people on TV that you don't know. He seems like a funny guy and I'm sure he's a great guy to know. I used to make snap judgements based on brief interactions with people only to find out later how inaccurate I was. Quote
zdunham Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 I've met Skeet before and he is a really cool guy. His image is all about marketing (as all of them are) and that's why he makes far more money than you! As for the rods, I am not a fan. I had quite a few different ones. The swimbait rod isn't bad and neither are the crank rods, but I'd rather spend a tad more and get something better. Quote
Crankin4Bass Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 I had the 7' MH power M action crank bait rod (model WMESRCB70C1.). It weighs a ton but I liked the action. Unfortunately, the butt cap came off the first day I used it, so I returned. I bought it at Walmart and things get banged up there, so that could have been the problem. Quote
CarolinaBoy4Life Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 I honestly don't see how people judge a person without ever meeting them or having a conversation with them. Now if you have a bad experience with a specific person and that creates your opinion on them fine. I haven't heard of Skeete being anything other than a down to earth person. Some people's confidence or personality may come off as stand offish or confrontational until you actually get to know them. On to the rod's, my buddy has some and likes them. I have no experience with them but you can go to your local Walmart and pick one up and feel it in hand and look at the guides and epoxy and see if it may be for you 3 Quote
Mike1324 Posted May 20, 2016 Author Posted May 20, 2016 Decided to pick up the swimbait rod and can say that I'm pretty happy with it. The action is nice and the tip have good sensitivity. If anyone was debating picking one up, I would say go for it as it seems worth the price tag. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Signature is no motivation for me to buy or not buy for that matter. Celebrity status does nothing for me. They're just people too, they just happen to have cool or non traditional jobs. As for these rods from what I've seen in stores I think you can do better. Quote

That's my opinion, my two cents. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted May 20, 2016 Super User Posted May 20, 2016 I bought a Skeet spinning combo at DSG on sale a couple years ago. The reel is junk, but I like the rod. Quote
