Bedding bass question

Today I was on a new lake, We found males making beds in one specific spot in a canal, water was 57.5. About 8 ft in the middle of the canal. My question is where are the females when the males are making beds?

With water still below 60*, the females are most likely in deeper water staging. They aren't too far away generally, but they're feeding and sitting on ledges, points, ambush points like that.

Thanks for the replys. The fish I was catching were like 1/2 mile into a canal. Would the females be staging in main lake or the canal?

Look for the first breakline away from the beds

And remember weather has someting to do when the big-ins come in. A front can drive the males off too.Catt is wright, or look for where the canal comes into the main lake and look at the two points going into the canal.

Some pieces to the puzzle:

If you see bedded males, and you know it's still early or mid spawn, some females will be very close by. That first breakline, or even break, could be the inside weedline, or simply a nearby weed clump, stick, or rock.

Where are MOST of the females? That depends on where in the spawn season your water is. Spawn season duration is often related to water body size.

Also, Individual males are "on beds", or defending territories, for over a month. 

Single temperatures are not reliable as they fluctuate. They will however tell you how active (and apt to move in, or out) females are likely to be.
