Help with rod/reel problems.. Shimano Stradic

So I have a shimano Stradic 3000 (maybe 4000 can't remember) reel on a 7'2" shimano compre rod... I am having this problem where my line between the reel and the first eye keeps hitting the rod itself when reeling in. It seems like there is always too much slack... I've only caught a few fish on this setup and I Absolutley love it but this is something that makes me not want to fish with it... It's very hard to handle and gets frustrating quickly.  Any advice is appreciated.

Interesting problem.

What type & test line are you using and what bait or presentation are you using when your line is hitting the rod ?

Happens with any bait and I've tried everything from 8lb mono to 20lb braid and 15lb flouro. I bought the worm/jig rod which is what I usually use it for, but it happens on top water as well. If I am using ANYTHING where there is less tension than say using a spinnerbait, it will hit the rod. If I have a fish on it doesn't happen but Still feels very "loose" is the best way to explain it

Sounds like a combination of spool size, shaft angle and guide size/ height and placement. Avoiding this situation is one of the primary advantages of a custom spinning Rod. Not that you can't address the issue but it will take some trial and error.

So maybe just get a different rod that will match the reel better. Maybe something where the first eye is closer to the spool itself?

A different rod or possibly a smaller size reel... A 2500 might work better

No, further away and / or higher. A closer guide makes wider billows in the line as it is choked.

I've noticed this if I use too heavy of a braid or flouro on a spinning rig. The roller on the reel catches the line, and spins it, as it's doing so, it's creating a sort of whipping. When the whipping happens, a heavy braid will have more momentum and whip further out than the lighter line. Think of it like those jump rope songs on the playground - a kid holding each end. A heavier jump rope swung out further since it was heavier. Might be something to look into.

This is what's happening but it doesn't matter what I use for line. I'm going to read the link posted about the rod and reels and see if I can just find a rod that matches the reel better.
