I have been using the Ned rig on lakes with a lot of success this year. My river season will be kicking off shortly and was wondering how the Ned is vs tubes for smallmouth. The tube is my go to usually on the river but have been itching to try the Ned. My only thought would be I can get a better hook set with a tube and would think I would lose a lot due to the smaller hook on the Ned. Any info. Or experience is appriciated.

Your concerns were mine until I used the Ned Rig in April on the Susky. Me and a friend had an 86 fish day on the Ned Rig. I was using Dave Reeves wire weed guard jig heads with #2 hook. Didn't get a hookset on less than five and I blame that on me, not the hook, simply because I have fished braid the past 2 yrs but have mono on my ned rig. I didn't set the hook properly with the stretch of mono.

Go for it, you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Ned rig and smallmouth go together like PB and jelly, or a Rage Craw and a jig.

I've never seen a bait that was more effective on a smallmouth bass than a Ned rig.

The Ned rig catches them when nothing else will.

That pretty much sums it up. So effective it's almost silly.

That is not Dave Reeves's jig. I don't think he has a web site but you can email him to order some. I think his email is dtrs5kprs@yahoo.com

Tander is correct, that is Dave's email address, he doesn't have a website.

A package of five painted 1/16- or 1/8-ounce ones cost $5.75, and a package of five unpainted 1/16- or 1/8-ounce ones cost $4.25. Anglers can order them by sending an email to Reeves at dtrs5kprs@yahoo.com.
