beardown34 Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 let's say you were inclined to fish a texas rigged plastic with a pegged weight. what are the pros/cons of just using a hook with a pegged weight, vs a naked jig head? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 14, 2016 Super User Posted May 14, 2016 T-rig can be weedless, jig head hooks are generally exposed. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted May 14, 2016 Super User Posted May 14, 2016 I think I understand your question . I dont think there is anything as weedless as the Texas rig Quote
beardown34 Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 admission: i fish with a snap so pegging a weight on an offset shank hook becomes a little more complex than it needs to be. i know, tie direct. but in lieu of that, i was wondering if you could just achieve the same effect -- a fixed weight to which the worm is attached -- by just fishing a worm on a jig head, minus the skirt. No, this changes the dynamics and compromises the action or subtleties of the presentation. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 14, 2016 Super User Posted May 14, 2016 The closest you can get would be a slider head, that would be the only way if you absolutely have to use a snap. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted May 14, 2016 Super User Posted May 14, 2016 I've never used a sliding weight ahead of my bait... there are many jigheads that can fish the hook point protected (most shakey head jigs) and a weighted swimbait hook will accomplish the same thing. oe Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted May 14, 2016 Super User Posted May 14, 2016 My advice would be to lose the snap and tie a knot. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted May 15, 2016 Super User Posted May 15, 2016 If you're going to fish, learn to tie good knots. 1 Quote
