robertb Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Are the pre rapala chug bugs really any better than the new ones? Aren't they made from the same mold? Quote

Really better ? No, the difference between Pre Rapala owned and Rapala owned is just in the measure of the nostalgia of the fisherman, actually before Rapala purchased Storm baits from Storm were quite inconsistent in many aspects ( paint job was meh, hooks weren´t very good, baits looked unfinished with excess plastic protruding from the seams ). Rapala came and changed all that, now they became quality products and some were even completely different, ex. Wiggle Warts, Pre Rapala Wiggle Warts and the new Rapala/Storm Wiggle Warts are two completely different animals the only thing both had in common was the name; this also caused some problems, people identified the name with a bait that was no longer in production and complained, something that made Rapala to return to the old ( but new again ) molds, as I said, you can´t compare old Storm WW with the new WWs since both are different baits ( actually I like a lot more the "new" ones that the old ones, besides, WWs were no longer one lure but a family of lures: SubWart, WW, Deep Wart available in 2 sizes too, small and huge ). 1 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 13, 2016 Super User Posted May 13, 2016 Raul has got you covered. The old wiggle warts would be a little off center with the hardware and it would cause the bait to have a searching action that would make fish bite. The new ones I think work well, the new original warts is what I'm talking about. The Rattlin' Chug Bug was always good, when Rapala bought Storm the quality of the baits became consistent but they never changed the chug bug design, at least not enough to change the action. The claim to fame of the chug bug is that it was a popper that walked the dog on its own, it does this by sitting level and having a bottom shape that is closer to flat than round. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted May 13, 2016 Super User Posted May 13, 2016 bait during normal production = OK, catches fish discontinued bait = best thing ever, hard to find, super rare, CRAZY money on the resale market!!! 4 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted May 13, 2016 Super User Posted May 13, 2016 Wait , Storm Chug Bugs are worth a lot of money . I have some wiggle warts that bring a pretty penny on ebay but the Chug Bugs too . I'll have to check that out . Quote
primetime Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 I buy them from a local shop and many are pre Rapala and I like them for one reason....People on Ebay will often pay alot more money for certain colors....I can't tell the differences but then again I rarely fish the big one, I like the 2 smaller ones and I like the newer colors anyhow...I never knew Pre Rapala Chug Bugs were any different...I would think they are cheaper since they were plastic and made with hooks available in the 70's, trebles today are much better, but I could be wrong.... Some older lures like the bomber Long A made by XCALIBUR were heavier and came in different colors but the difference is very subtle..By the time you change out hooks, sand them etc....It probably doesn't make a difference... avidone1 Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 chug bugs are a go to topwater for me. I have noticed no difference in fish catching since the Rapala take over. 1 Quote
