Basshunter2k5 Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 I have been fishing out of an aluminum 14' flatbottom in the past and want to find a good used bass boat. I love to bass fish and want to find a boat that is much easier to fish out of. Also, I wouldn't mind doing some tourney fishing. I have had the whole debate of aluminum vs. fiberglass in my head, but since then have almost convinced myself to go for fiberglass. My biggest problem with aluminum boats have been the wind. I look to spend in the 6 to 7 thousand dollar range to get myself started. What brand or type of bass boat do you think will best suit my need? I really appreciate your help! Thanks!! Quote
Skeeter6598 Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 In that price range you'll probably have to settle with an older style boat. Say early 90's. I've seen alot of early 90's Ranger boats, Nitros, Astros, and Pro Crafts in that price range. My dad had a 91 Astro and it was really a nice boat! Quote
Basshunter2k5 Posted April 13, 2005 Author Posted April 13, 2005 OK, I may check into those...Thanks for the info!! Quote
Basshunter2k5 Posted April 13, 2005 Author Posted April 13, 2005 I saw a 99' model javelin with I think a 175 hp engine for around $7500.....What does anyone think about a Javelin???? ??? Quote
Skeeter6598 Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Really good boat but I would be a little cautious with it being a 99 model and only wanting $7500. Hey it might just be a heck of a deal! Javelins are really good boats. A buddy of mine had one and they are really nice. Quote
Basshunter2k5 Posted April 13, 2005 Author Posted April 13, 2005 my mistake....I meant to say it was a 96' model...not a 99' ;D ;D LOL....that would have really been a good deal. Quote
Skeeter6598 Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 LOL! Yeah I probably would've jumped on that deal! That's not a bad price for a 96 model if it's in good shape and such! What's the length on it? Quote
Basshunter2k5 Posted April 13, 2005 Author Posted April 13, 2005 This was the add... Bass Boat 1996 Javlin 20ft, 175HP Evinrude, like new, $7500. Quote
Skeeter6598 Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 If that's the truth I'd jump all over it! 20 footer with a 175 (I'm guessing a Johnson or Evinrude). If it's in like new shape then it's probably a good deal. Quote
Boo Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 If you get it watch out for the oil injection system on that johnson/evinrude, easily blow up a motor. In fact I would disable it and mix the fuel/oil myself. Quote
dotz Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 I had ( still have) a 14 jon boat. 2 yrs ago I bought a 92 Procraft 18' with a 175 Merc on it for $8000. The boat was in great shape and I love it. I didn't know how I bass fished out of that small boat all those years. Good luck in your search. Quote
Laser1550 Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 Bashunter whatever you do make sure you look in all the corners and under everything and carry a rubber mallet. Tapping on the transom will tell you if it is solid and just give the boat a thorough inspection. Run it see how it handles and make sure YOU like it. There are alot of boats in the price range you are looking to spend that will fit your needs just make sure and dont buy someones problems. Also if you come to the point that you really like a certain boat have a mechanic look at the motor. If someone is honest they wont mind you drivin and havin a mechanic look at the motor. Good luck and TIGHT LINES. Quote
