Buffdaddy54 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 So,In my search for a new spinning Rod I have settled on 3 possibles. Fenwick HMG, Fenwick HMX, Abu Garcia Vendetta. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Also, any opinions on 2 piece as opposed to 1 piece. Do you lose any sensitivity by going 2 piece? (Like I would know) Will be bank fishing small ponds and lakes. All rods medium to medium heavy, fast action 6'6 Thanks Forgot to mention I will be pairing it with a Pflueger Supreme or President LE. thanks again Quote
bigturtle Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 I had the HMG for a year or so and it was a good rod. its worth the extra price over the HMX, and feels a bit sturdier and a tad lighter. Sensitivity wise, its "meh". I can feel a strike if its strong enough, but light bites will be hard to detect. I have not used the Abu Vendetta. As far as 1 piece vs 2 piece, you will definitely lose sensitivity, but enough for you to notice? I wouldn't know. You should try them in your hands if possible, as 2 piece rods will tend to be tip heavy(as far as cheaper ones go), due to the extra material in the joint area. Fenwick's warranty service is very reputable and hassle free for the most part, so that may be a factor to consider. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 12, 2016 Super User Posted May 12, 2016 Out of the 3 rods the HMG is the one you want, I have a 6'6" medium power Vendetta, 1st generation and I can tell you it is nice for moving baits of soft jerkbaits but the sensitivity is average, the HMG is better by a good margin. The HMG isn't bad in the sensitivity dept. when comparing it to other rods in the same range but it isn't going to wow you either, it is just a good rod that is great for the price point. 1 Quote
Yudo1 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 I have 2 piece and 1 piece spinning rods and don't really notice a difference in sensitivity but I prefer 1. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted May 12, 2016 Global Moderator Posted May 12, 2016 Since you mentioned Fenwick, I suggest you find yourself a Techna AV. Imho, they are hands down the best rod Fenwick ever made and comparable to anything made today in the same class. Mike Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted May 12, 2016 Super User Posted May 12, 2016 The Fenwick Aetos is worth saving a little more $$$ for... oe Quote
I.rar Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Avoid 2 piece anything by Abu. Fenwick got their 2 piece rods right though. It's a matter of preference. Quote
fuzzion Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 I have the HMX - 6'6"mf, 1 piece. I like it a lot and It's my go to rod. I also prefer the split grip. Good luck with your choice. Quote
Jaw1 Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 go fenwick, avoid anything abu. I have had multiple vendetta rods break with no explanation. The last warranty replacement rod i got I gave away. The veritas rods were not as bad but sold everything abu i had due to poor performance. Quote
Onvacation Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 I have a couple of two piece rods and I know that for me, the loss in sensitivity is negligible. Factor in that I have the two piece for travel reasons where a solid blank won't work and I think it just comes down to picking what you want. Quote
Mark888 Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 I would defiantly recommend the HMG series. I am in the process of transitioning all of my rods to Fenwick. If you have some spear $$ laying around you should try out the bass elite tech series, nothing but good things to say about the rods. I own both 1 piece and 2 piece spinning rods. I would recommend you go with the one piece since from what i can tell, there is an improvement in sensitivity and the action of the tip, but it would vary from rod to rod and quality. It depends what is more convent for you... good luck! Quote

I'd pick an HMG out of those choices. Nice rods for the money. If you can find the one you want at FFO, you can also save a decent amount of change. Quote
Buffdaddy54 Posted May 16, 2016 Author Posted May 16, 2016 Went with a Okuma Citrix and Okuma Inspira reel because I got a ridiculous deal on them. 1 Quote
