papajoe222 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Two colors I wouldn't be without are black&blue and green pumpkin. You can add color or contrast with the trailer. Swim jigs are a different story. 3 Quote
RyneB Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Find something similar to the siebert sweet craw. Since i started throwing it, it's been my best producer. Ill still throw other jigs, but it's still the one I throw when I NEED a fish. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted May 12, 2016 Super User Posted May 12, 2016 Crawfish change colors at certain times of the year,it is called molting.Like papajoe posted, and i agree with him ,them two colors would be my top two also. But there are times when they will be a blue-ish,red-ish,green orange and all lakes can have a certain craw .All lakes are not the same as color of crawfish goes.Just catch a few bass and put them in your live well and after awhile the bass will spit up some of the craws that they ate,and take a look at the colors and the claw colors.,and then match the hatch. But now to answer your question- black/blue or just black,greenpumpkin,brown/blue, or just brown,PBJ,and green with a bit of orange in it! The bass in Table Rock love Brown/blue. And as Papa said play with trailer colors like a brown jig and a blue chunk and GOT ONE! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 12, 2016 Global Moderator Posted May 12, 2016 Some variation of green pumpkin imitates so many different prey items, including bluegills, it's pretty hard to go wrong with it. Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 You can make it super complicated, or very simple. I like simple. With 4 basic color patterns, you can cover almost any imitation or water color/lighting: black/blue, green, brown, and white. They should be your base. Now, you can add orange, chartreuse, purple, etc into the mix, but really those 4 colors are your base. You can accent them with different colors or actioned trailers, but you can cover virtually all conditions with those 4 basic colors. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 12, 2016 Super User Posted May 12, 2016 The colors I use most are blue/black, green, black, and orange/brown. I start off matching the trailer to the skirt, and then go from there. Quote

Super User Catt Posted May 12, 2016 Super User Posted May 12, 2016 Black-n-Blue, Black Neon, & Black-Brown-n-Amber Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted May 12, 2016 Super User Posted May 12, 2016 I would get some black/blue for night fishing or dirty water and some green pumpkin or watermelon for clear water. Quote
RichF Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 I fish those AT jigs almost exclusively and only use 2 colors: junebug and green pumpkin (one for clear water, one for dirtier water). I catch hundreds of bass on them every year. Like most guys are saying, it's best to keep it simple. I'm a firm believer that the fish just simply don't care about minor subtleties in color. I'm not even sure I'm sold on the dark colors in muddy water deal (even though I do it most of the time). I don't know how many I've caught on all green pumpkin in water with an inch of visibility. Airman4754 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Black/blue, craw, green pumpkin, and PB&J are the four colors I own. Swim jigs are white/black, black/blue, bluegill, and orange/purple. Quote

Super User buzzed bait Posted May 12, 2016 Super User Posted May 12, 2016 A LOT of states publish the crawfish species online like at the DNR site or colleges or something.... check them out and you'll be surprised how many different colors those things are throughout the year! that said, black anything does catch them year round. i like a greenish/blue and a pb&j type color to imitate craws and bluegill year round. can't go wrong there. Surfcaster Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 On the lakes around here, Jordan and Shearon Harris, green, brown, black and blue are the colors that dominate the tackle boxes and bags of the heavy hitters. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted May 13, 2016 Super User Posted May 13, 2016 I like : Black & Blue , Brown & Orange and Candy Craw . I use the Candy Craw the most as when the sun is out it has blue gill sparkles in the skirt and when it's cloudy it remains just a dull Green Pumkin color which looks like a craw dad - very versitle color !
