lost a nice one cos i used the wrong gear..

my regular pole was a stiff medium and i keep it in my car to use for work and then at night. well since my cars in the shop i left my pole at work and decided to go out with my light action rod.

got super bored using it with a weightless yum dinger so i decided to use a texas rigged craw with a bullet weight. i fished for a few hours getting bit by mosquitoes and towards the end i get what i was after, i lifted the pole and she fought hard. had a exciting 10 second fight and was thinking it must be a 4 lbs. then in a flash she spat it out. i was in shock as i reeled in my bait to see it and my heart sank when i saw the hook was still in the craw. 

 

if i had a stronger rod i would of set the hook. 

i feel like such a turd right now and  i need a stiff drink...

Sucks, do you use braid or flouro? I you use braid you can always add a heavier leader and tighten up the drag. I do it all the time

Had something similar happen to me, but it was hook related. I decided to throw a little rapala minnow around with my spinning rod, and I had previously replaced the hooks with some cheap eagle claw trebles, unsure of the size but they're tiny and less than sticky sharp. 

Anyways, I know this term is used alot, but something hit that lure that darn near jerked the pole out of my hand. Like, I almost literally lost my whole setup. Well it pulled and I pulled back, and and fought it for about 5 seconds and it just disappeared.

I still wonder if it was a bass though. I had just previously caught a Gar that hit pretty hard, but not like this.

I know how you feel.  I was fishing from shore one time in a very weedy lake full of milfoil.  I was using two ML rigs that day because I wanted to fish weightless.  Caught one that went down into the weeds, and I couldn't get the fish out because my rod kept loading up instead of pulling the fish out. 

Just take it as a learning experience, and go back and get that sucker.

The rod you wanted to use was not available at the time so you made do with what you had on hand and went fishing anyway.  It cost you a fish but not a meal or a paycheck you were just fun fishing anyway right?  If you would have decided not to go at all you would not have even got the chance to miss that fish.  Still sounds like a good day to me.

when you say you lifted your rod, it just sounds like you didnt set the hook hard enough. i fish t-rigged baby rage craws with my light rod all the time, i dont have the problem you did...sometimes the mistakes are on us as fishermen, not our gear...

Last year I caught a personal-best-for-that-particular-lake on my ultralight.

The hook was an Eagle Claw with a weightless whacky rig.

You just need to set the hook.  It's not the equipment's fault.

I was in FL this winter visiting a buddy and in his housing plan were a bunch of little ponds.  I didn't have my gear with me so we borrowed a  neighbor's.  He had some Walmart combos which were Shakespeare.  Not the best maintained or quality gear.  They were light rods but I still t rigged up some senkos.  I just made sure to reel the slack before sweep setting and did quite well.  My buddy who doesn't fish actually got the hang of it did well too.
