scooter Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 If you haven't noticed there have been unbeleivable deals on boats on ebay. awesome looking bass boats. for $5800 of course it is a scam you can't see the boat but must send your money western union first. Lets have some fun with our Nigerian buddies. but if you catch one they are fun to play with, BUT DO NOT GIVE ANY OF YOUr PERSONAL EBAY INFORMATION. I had one of these dips on line for a hour and half. trying to convince him to let my friend who lived wherre the boat was suppose to be "stored" see the bot i was told he couldn't because of seurity reasons. Then I told him I wanted another friend to personally deliver the money to where he lived. It was quit fun and I hope I burned up much of his time. Lets do our part and pack these idiot scamers email accounts with what they think are buyers for the phoney ads they are posting. Quote
Keitht Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 I recently listed a boat for sale on the internet and got several attempts at scamming. I began getting emails saying that they would buy my boat but wanted to give me $5000 more than I was asking for it. But as they said, "I had to trust them." Anyway the deal went something like I send them the 5000 first then they would send me a payment that gave me back my 5000 and I would end up with 5000 more than I had listed the boat for. RIGHT!! Then I got phone calls from Germany. They wanted to buy my $7000 dollar aluminum bass boat. While I'm not sure that the German guys were scammers, I refused them as well. But looking back I think I should have told them OK, send the money first, then you can come pick up the boat. I never understood the German calls? Quote

Yup, I sold my Outback on eBay last year, and got inquiries from a guy in Lithuania or one of those eastern Euro places. I just blocked the moron from bidding and reported him, though I highly doubt eBay took any action... Quote
Guest argyll Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 If you have serious doubts about a deal then forget it, its not worth the hassle. But remember that most european fishermen with internet access buy from the USA, both from the big stores like Basspro and Cabelas and also from people like yourself. I've been doing it for years. Its perfectly safe if you make some rules and stick to them. I'd never deal with someone on Ebay that has no trading history or a bad trading history. I never buy or sell anything other than by Paypal and I always agree the postage costs in advance. I dont buy/sell to known problem areas like Nigeria, China and Indonesia and I never respond to people asking me to buy something that I never won in the auction. If you make sure the money is in your bank in cleared funds before sending the goods, then you've cracked it. Better still, wait until you have the cash in your hand. If someone in europe wants to buy your boat then its probably a rip-off. The cost and issues surrounding the export of a bass boat to europe are too big to tackle and the shipping cost of a boat container to europe plus transport costs, paperwork, taxes etc would probably be around $4000-5000. lastly it was recently reported that some US scammers are using very well made fake US money orders. Never assume that a money order that someone sent you will be cashed. Take it to your Post Office and get it checked before sending goods. Quote
