I.rar Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Im looking for a shorter ML spinning rod around 4'6 - 5'6 for my 5 yeah old and I keep coming back to THAT brands junior series. Any suggestions? Thanks Quote
Super User Darren. Posted May 12, 2016 Super User Posted May 12, 2016 Hmm. Not sure if BPS has their micro lite rods in that length any more, but they used to. Great quality rods - IM6. We've still got one, tho it's no longer 6'. My youngest uses it (11 yrs). Just checked. Looks like 6' is the shortest in ML. But they have Light in shorter lengths. http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Micro-Lite-Graphite-Spinning-Rod/product/1503010300471/ And they're on sale for $39 1 Quote
I.rar Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 Gah. I must of looked at that rod a dozen times and read it as ultra light. That's definitely an option. Quote
bigturtle Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Fenwick Eagle offers a 5'6" MH-Moderate, Fenwick HMX offers a 5'3" L-Moderate. http://www.fenwickfishing.com/fenwick-freshwater-rods-fenwick-eagle/fenwick-eagle-spinning/1363879.html http://www.fenwickfishing.com/fenwick-freshwater-rods-fenwick-hmx/fenwick-hmx-spinning/1363883.html Theres no ML, but there are UL, L, and a MH..... They can run anywhere between $50-70, cheaper if you buy on sale Quote
I.rar Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 I'm looking to spend $50 max for this one. It's just to get her familiar with spinning gear and hopefully when she takes off with it, I'll splurge and get her something nice. The baits will be ML territory and would prefer a fast action for more versatility. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted May 12, 2016 Super User Posted May 12, 2016 dude, those ambition rods are pretty good if that's the one you're referring to.... i almost picked one up, but they didn't have the exact length i wanted. 1 Quote

Yes that's exactly what I was referring to. I'm so close to picking one up but there is very little feedback on them. Where did you see one at? What did you think? Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted May 12, 2016 Super User Posted May 12, 2016 the ones i saw were at gander mtn, if they'd had a 2 piece in 5'6" i'd have bought one for myself for trout fishing.... for a kid, i wouldn't hesitate on grabbing one. they seem very well made for the price and had a nice feel to them in my opinion. when my older nephew gets proficient with casting his spincaster and moves up to the spinning rod, i'll probably grab one of them for him to be honest. and even though they don't want to hear it on here, that company has stellar customer service should anything go wrong... 1 Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted May 12, 2016 Super User Posted May 12, 2016 St Croix Premier has 5'6" Medium and 5'6" light listed. I have the 5'6" Medium and have used it a lot wade fishing. My youngest boy used it for years when he got started, great rod but a bit more than your $50 budget. Quote
d-camarena Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 I bought a 5'0 ultralight uglystik for my nephew. Great rods. He catches fish everytime. I usually put a ned rig on that rod and i cant complain Quote
I.rar Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 I have an old ugly stick lite from when I first got into fishing but it's definitely whippy. We went ahead and got the ambition ordered in the 4'6 flavor. She liked the way it looks and I feel good shes getting the one she picked. It'll probably go with a size 25 president to match the blue unless she finds something else. I appreciate everyone's input! 1 Quote
blckshirt98 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 I bit late but maybe also check Wal Mart for the Wright & McGill Trait Crist Pink Rod combos! Quote
I.rar Posted May 21, 2016 Author Posted May 21, 2016 An update. Got an ambition with a 6925 for my kid and she loves it. Went out for a few but the rain came shortly after so we will be out there tomorrow and hopefully get into some fish. 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted May 21, 2016 Super User Posted May 21, 2016 The Costas seal the deal. She's hooked! Rod/reel combo looks great. Quote
I.rar Posted May 21, 2016 Author Posted May 21, 2016 Thanks, she's still getting the hang of casting but is quickly picking it up. She tries to take my costas every time were out and today was her day so she got them. I'm looking for a polarized pair that'll fit her little face. 1 Quote
