If the bite is tough I sometimes say " finally". Other than that I usually don't say anything.

Sounds about like how I do it.

In a tournament, I usually don't say a thing....my partner knows when the boat rocks, to get the net. 90% of the time, I have the fish flipped in the boat before he even puts his rod down.

The boat rock, or the sound of reeling faster with tension on the line, or the rod slicing through the air fast on a hook set, all sure signals to get the net. I'm not patient about waiting for it either unless I can see they're obviously not hooked good. Pitching or flipping, that fish will be in the boat seconds after the hookset.

During the state championship, we were wrapping things up hitting a laydown across from the boat ramp 5 minutes before weigh in and I turned to my partner and said "you've caught 13 today right?" and he goes "Nope, this one's 14" right before he leaned back on one. Best hook set catch phrase so far that I have witnessed!

If I'm fishing with someone else, I say "got one." Myself, it's usually "there's one."

Exactly this

Posted

ACT I:

"Okay," (I, to partner), "I have one on," (in a deliberately calm voice I use to communication simple facts -- meanwhile there is all this incredible internal emotion welling up in me, especially if it's a big one.)  Then (to fish, begging): "No, no, no, fish, don't jump, stay down, don't  freaking dare jump! Oh, oh, ooh, you're coming up, crap, you're gonna jump!"

ACT II:

Fish Jumps

ACT III:

"He's gone. I let him spit it. I'm an idiot."

ACT III (alternate):

"He's still on, bro, see how I hauled his dumass face sideways when he tried to jump, kept the pressure on, wouldn't give him any slack, man. That's what I'm talkin' about! That's what I'm talkin' about! You need like an 8:1 reel and you just haul his face sideways back to the water and it don't even matter if he jumps. One must have CONTROL." (Now, in voice accent of space alien robot): "I am master of bass! I am jump-proof bass master"... and then:  "Oh, s***t, he jumped again. Whoa! He spit my jig! He's gone. Oh, man. I swear, I'm an idiot!"

Usually it's " ah........ Son of a b........"

with my buddy "suck it punk" then I do that wrestler move.

Mostly profanity but but I will start working on something more Disney like when I take my kids.

Either my best James Hetfield impression with "Yeaahh", or "Ha, not weeds." One is loud and the other is very quiet. You decide.

That's pretty metal dude. I thought only I did that though haha. I usually do s full out "oh yeaahh" though

"Please stay on the hook", or "don't get off".

I usually will have the fish on for a couple seconds then say "there we go" or "here's one"
