I never noticed this until I started fishing with a partner, and then noticed the pro's doing it. Do you have a hookset catchphrase?

Some people say 'Gotchya!' some pro's always say 'Biggun!'.

Every time I do a hookset and get a fish on, I always find myself saying 'Here we go!' without any control, I always say it without fail haha.

What do you say?

I think I tend to be pretty quiet on the hook set. Once a fish is on the line I'm all business.

I'll usually say "fish on" or "there it is". :)

There it is for a normal feeling fish and Here we go if it feels big right away.

I guy I've been fishing with a guy forever that always says Maybe and looks up at his rod to make sure it's not a snag. Then when the fish is about to the boat he will finally admit he has one on.

When I use to be big into ice fishing, sitting in out shanty waiting for a tip up, as soon as we saw the flag, all four of my buddies and I would come busting out fighting each other to get to the tip up first, all while screaming "FISH ON!" of course slipping and falling on our ***** all the way there.

Or if you're my brother, just set the hook on every snag, weed, bump. I swear, he sets the hook if a fly lands on his rod tip.

If I'm fishing with someone else, I say "got one." Myself, it's usually "there's one."

I usually say "here we go" as well, then after I feel the weight I'll say either , "big one" or "di**"

Either my best James Hetfield impression with "Yeaahh", or "Ha, not weeds." One is loud and the other is very quiet. You decide.

I'm not sure what I say? I know I say something, especially in a tournament situation, so my partner knows there's a fish on.

Most of the time I just say "fish" and if it feels big I always include "Hope it's a bass".

One of my favorite Mexican Guides says  . . .

"Uh-Oh, No Good.  Get the net."

"There he is."  And if I think it's a good fish, I usually follow it up with a Roland Martin, "SON."

I usually scream "FINALLY!!!!" :)  Truthfully I just say "there's one". One time I was fishing with "That friend" (check out that thread) and after catching my 10th bass and he hadn't caught one I hooked into another and before I could say it my friend said it for me. lol

I don't unless I am in a tournament, and even then it is just so my partner casts there incase of a school of fish.

"Here we go"

"There he is"

"Got 'im"

"That's a snag"

"Darn branch"

Or nothing at all...
