Toallhisdoom Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 LookING for a nice striper rod for boat fishing. Picked up a penn slammer 560l live liner reel so need a rod to match to it. Never striper fished before this year but after catching a 39" 24.5lb fish I am hooked! So any suggestions for a rod that would work well with this reel would be great! Mostly boat fishing with live herring in the hudson near albany. Occasionally the Cape boat fishing as well. Price range is under 100 Thanks! Quote
Super User burrows Posted May 10, 2016 Super User Posted May 10, 2016 I do some striper fishing and personally I don't think you need a really sensitive rod like for bass I would go with an ugly stick striper rod. 4 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted May 10, 2016 Super User Posted May 10, 2016 I'm having a real problem with your picture If it is in your gallery, you have the option to change it's orientation from upside down to rightside up. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 10, 2016 Global Moderator Posted May 10, 2016 I agree with the striper Ugly Stick. You need something with a softer tip to lob livebait and not pull hooks on big, hard pulling fish, but plenty of backbone to handle said big, hard pulling fish. Sensitivity isn't really an issue with detecting a striper bite. 2 Quote
georgeyew Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 I just picked up the 7'6 Ugly Stik Striper rod. It is a blast to catch fish when you have to work to bring them in instead of just winching them in. 2 Quote
Red Bear Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 another vote for the ugly stik striper rod. admitted, i dont have one..yet, but ive been looking at them lately for my striper fishing on smith mountain lake. the guys down there who fish livebait(shad/alewives) on smith mountain lake swear by the medium-light ugly stik striper rods. as another comparison, they say the closest thing to them would be the eagle claw rods... lakeannaangler Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 My dad and I fish stripers on lake anna and smith mountain lake with the ugly stik striper rods and they are really good rods. 2 Quote
