BuckWildOutdoors Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 I'm in the market to pick up a new reel and I'm stuck between the ardent apex pro and the Diawa Tatula CT. I've heard some good things about both and I'm stuck in the middle. What are pros and cons to both? Why should I get one over the other? Some help would be appreciated, thanks. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted May 9, 2016 Super User Posted May 9, 2016 Welcome aboard! If the choice is between those two, I'd pick the Tatula. Quote

There are a lot of Daiwa fans on the board here. I'm sure some will chime in soon. If it were me, I'd pick a Shimano. I've got a Chronarch 50e and it's a stellar reel. I've also got a Daiwa Lexa which is an excellent reel, as well, tho not in the Chronarch's class. That said, I'm not in the market for casting reels any time soon. I've been concentrating more on my spinning setups these days. I don't have experience with Ardent reels. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 9, 2016 Super User Posted May 9, 2016 Daiwa is a better reel than the Ardent, on all counts, in every category. A similarly priced Shimano, Lew's, Revo, Pinnacle, Okuma, or even much maligned Quantum would be better. Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 9, 2016 Super User Posted May 9, 2016 I didn´t become a Daiwa customer just because, I did it because they make good products, have excellent reputation and have been in this business for a very long time. List of Daiwa BCs I own: 1 PT33SH 2 PR100H 2 TDZ103H 2 TDZ105H 1 SS SV 1 Alphas Itö 1 Alphas Type F 1 Alphas R Edition 3 Pixy Airy Red Megabass Zonda 68 ( Megabass "builds" their reels on Daiwa reels ) Number of Ardent reels I own ------> 0 So between those two brands: Daiwa 1 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted May 9, 2016 Super User Posted May 9, 2016 I thought we covered this in the last thread? They're ok. Not the best reel out there for the money. Some people like them. The original made in the USA reels were built like tanks, and weighed as much too. They were very durable, but dated in design. Quote

I agree get the ardent seems like you have your mind set on it, then in a couple of weeks let us know what happened. Ardent makes some ugly looking reels lol Quote

zell_pop1 Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 There is a Walmart near me that up to a year ago had a citica d, an e, and a g all sitting together at $120 apiece brand new, but I think he just meant to look for a good used one. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted May 10, 2016 Super User Posted May 10, 2016 Get the Daiwa. This should be the easiest decision you ever make. 2 Quote

jtipton91 Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Daiwa. Slowly switching from shimano to daiwa for casting reels. Both great products...in my opinion. Ardent....not so much for the money. Quote
