altmn Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Hi all, So, I had an idea recently for a small, super shallow water boat. I'm talking about at most a six inch draft on plane and at the absolute most 15 feet long, preferably shorter. Now, I'm not talking about a kayak or a canoe, I want a power boat. What got me thinking about this is that I live in Minnesota, and there are some great little rivers with amazing smallmouth fishing up here; growing up my family had, and still has, a Riverpro (I'm 19). It's an awesome boat, but it's getting old and I want something for myself. But I don't want to spend 40 grand and I would also like something small to be more navigable in tiny rivers, and easy to transport. I would also like to be able to stand and fish. I found a really cool company called Gheenoe, but once I looked around a little more I found that the draft on these is a bit too deep for my purposes. I know these criteria are a lot to ask and its probably not even possible, but I would love some thoughts and ideas. Thanks. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted May 9, 2016 Super User Posted May 9, 2016 Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ Clearly I'm bias, but I'd say go Old Town or don't go at all ! A-Jay Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 That sounds like kayak water, to me. Old Town, Feelfree, Hobbie, Wilderness Systems, and a number of other companies all make great boats for just that type of fishing. The killer thing about kayaks is that for $2k or so, you can have one hell of a boat. 2 Quote
Captain America Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 You could always wade. I wade for smallies all the time in some of our smaller rivers. Otherwise any kind of 12 foot semi v will probably get the job done. I would imagine that you'd be able to find one pretty cheap on craigslist. 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 9, 2016 Super User Posted May 9, 2016 get a smaller jet boat and you will be golden. No need for a riverpro for smaller waters. Or you could always get one of these too. I have yet to see one in person but i have heard lots of good reports about them. http://www.soloskiff.com/ Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted May 9, 2016 Super User Posted May 9, 2016 Sounds like waters for either a small jon boat with mud motor, or one of these They make a 1 and 2 seater, top speed of 35 mph, and looks to have a pretty shallow draft too! Klebs01 Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Look at something like a stealthcraft drift boat. They have powered designs that are a lot less than $40k, and are designed for the rivers and use that you are describing. Quote
