KVD line and lure, does it actually work?

I bought some KVD line and lure and have been useing it for about 3 months now and can't decide if it actually works. It seems like it does at first but then after a while it acts like it makes the line memory worse. Please can someone tell me if it actually works on other lines because I don't think it works on seaguar red label florocarbon.

I think it works pretty darn well on all lines aside from braid, and some folks believe it works for that, too. 

Personally, I think it works best that first time it's used on freshly spooled line. Subsequent applications aren't quite as noticeable.

How do you use it? Just spray it on the line after you spool it? Be specific. And how does KVD L&L compare with Blakemore Real Magic?

I use it on Yo-Zuri and it makes a BIG difference. I spray it on when spooling fresh line and about 30 minutes before fishing each time.

Makes a heck of a difference to me, mono and braid.

Give the line a good soak spray the night before, and again before hitting the water. Be sure to get the whole spool.

J Bab, you take a wash cloth and spray a "wet spot" on it with the KVD or other conditioning product.

Using your thumb and forefinger to hold the "wet spot" you then run the line through it while spooling the reel.

You respray the area while spooling to keep it moist.

You can also spray the product on the line on the spool from time to time to have it soak in.

A pro told me that when the line is manufactured it has a "powder" on it that needs to be removed. I have no idea if this is true or not and boil all the hype down to confidence. If you have confidence the line will perform better with the line conditioner then by all means use it. If you don't think it makes a difference then don't worry about it.

As for KVD comparing with Blakemore Reel Magic, I like the KVD product best just because I have more confidence in it. I have no scientific studies to compare the two. I also have used the BPS line conditioner and I suppose it does what the KVD product is supposed to do. Once again, I have no earthly idea.

So if you are more confident using the product please do so. Otherwise, I have no idea how much of an improvement in line control or casting ability the product adds to your fishing. Good luck.

KVD Line & Lure Conditioner is a fine product, but the effectiveness varies over a broad range of lines.

Red Label is a hard fluorocarbon and although some of our members swear by it, I only use it for leader, not mainline.

Line conditioner is kinda like using scent on your plastic baits. Purely a "confidence" thing, with no way to actually prove that it works, or for how long in use on the water . Since I switched from fluoro to braid (with a fluoro leader), I haven't used it much lately. But even when I was using it on fluoro and monofilament lines, I didn't really notice much of a difference. But that's just me.

I notice a difference on fluoro.  For once, it's nice to have a product work as advertised.  The only thing I don't understand is how you use it for lures?

Absolutely it works, on all lines.   It's a must have for me.   The main advantage with braid is keeping the color in the braid, and holding that fresh out of the box feel.  It slows the break in process.  Some people don't like that. 

I'm not sure what you'd do to a lure with it, though?

I love it!!! It allows me to use a good line that has a little more memory than others lines I use. I can have my reels spooled for a month and all it takes is a hit of KVD L&L and I'm good to go. The way I use it is when I get to the water, I give my reel spools a couple of spritzes, I do each reel I have starting with the one I'm going to use first. When I do that I'm good for most of the day, occasionally I may have to give the line another spritz but very seldom. I got my first bottle in a grab bag I bought for $2.00 at a fishing show and it sat in my home for about a year and one day my line was really bad so I decided the next trip I'd take this stuff and give it a shot, and after that one time I now make sure I have it all the time. I will tell you that it did help fluorocarbon line for me but I really hate fluorocarbon to the point I don't use it at all anymore. I never saw the need to use it on braid so mono is what I use it on and it works just as well on Big Game as it does on any other line and the best part is I don't get the oil slick when my line hits the water like I get with reel magic.

Generally, I spray all my non-braid spools (mostly Yo-Zuri) the night before.  I am positive that it makes a difference; both on spinning and casting reels.

Actually, I do not recommend this method, and I'm pretty sure Rob (the creator of the product) does not either.  Just spray the spool, and optionally, the guides.

i can't use enough of it!  i spray it on LIBERALLY while spooling line onto the reel and then apply a heavy dose the night before i'm going to make sure there's plenty on there.  it makes good line great and great line even better.

I am a cautious believer in it.  I had a spinning reel spooled up with a cheaper 6lb floro and had no end of trouble with it.  On the recommendation of posters here I bought some KVD L&L and gave the spooled line a good application.  The line seemed far far better the next time I went out.  I have not retreated this spool yet but will do it the night before the next time I take it out.

I vaguely remember the owner telling us to not use cotton when spooling line though a wet rag. Use a synthetic material instead. I do not remember why. He gave an explanation; I just don't recall what it was.

If you're applying it and not getting any benefit from it, you used cotton, or you probably did not let it dry and bond to the line. This is essential. You can't just spray it on and go fishing.

If you ever try it, you'll quit using real magic. But don't throw the reel magic away. It's great to spray on the weather stripping around you car doors. Keeps them easy to open in icy weather.

Its great and does work..the cotton rag thing has truth to it anything that has  a smaller molucelure structure than mono with get into the pores .think about how you can sharpen a knife on leather.

I use one one my wifes nylons to run the line through when spooling.

There are no cotton fibers being left behind and you'll use a lot less because it does not soak into the cotton.

Agreed. It's a must have for me as well. Works like a dream on mono, especially spraying the reel the night before fishing.  It really lets it sit in and relaxes the mono.

While spooling, I spray it on numerous times at different levels. So basically the entire spool is soaked (except the very bottom, which won't get used) and the KVD is nearly dripping from the spool. Takes about 6 squirts. 

After that, I spray it onto the surface of each spool containing Hybrid, mono, or fluoro about every third of fourth trip.

Been doing this for years and it works great. It's hugely noticeable on some lines, and less noticeable on others.

At the end of fishing I cast and start reeling in through a cloth to get the line dry. I spray after about every 8 turns turns, reel the rest and spray again. That way it soaks good and deep. Overnight it sinks into the line. When spooling I'll spray the line right out of the package and let it sit for an hour. Then spray a micro fiber cloth and reel,it on the spool through that. It is especially good on spinning reels to prevent line twist.

I use it on my line just after winter before I spool up with fresh line.  It won't fix bad line but it will sure help make an unruly line more manageable. If the line you purchase requires it out of the box then you either have an inferior line or simply a bad batch.

I bought some and I seriously can't tell any bit of difference. I think its just a gimmick but as you can see some people swear by it but not me.
