powrofone Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 I have been researching boats and motors for months now. My wife and I plan on getting a new boat for the 2006 season. While I have settled on a 2 stroke model over a 4 stroke model for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is maintenance and simplicity of construction, the Evinrude E-Tec is climbing to the top of my list. I would however like to talk with some folks running the E-Tec, WHY THEY DO NOT LIKE THE E_TEC, why they love it....what motor they would choose...etc etc etc. Quote
tradguy Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 high marine tech. here...e -techs the way to go Quote
powrofone Posted March 17, 2005 Author Posted March 17, 2005 lets see...what manufactuers use Evinrude as their main motor...Triton? Who else? Mercury is number one on the water because they have a deal with all the manufactuerers I think...not because they are the best...just because you have a hard time finding a new boat without a mercury shoved up its butt. I do not have alot of choices in my area in fiberglass bass boats...Tracker made boats...Stratos about an hour and a half away...Ranger about the same...all the rest much further...all those dealers use merc's and will not put on an Evinrude without a hefty charge (low trade in value on the new merc, pay balance on evinrude plus install) Quote
Nick_Barr Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 That e-tec is one fast motor, i saw a guy zooming down the lake in one which was a 200hp. Quote
joe_schmoe Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 I am in your boat ;D I have done months worth of research and have found the E-Tec appears to be the motor of choice. I have only found 4 instances of people not liking their E-Tec...Then Bombadier came in and fixed their motors and now there love them. Here are three links which have grown since I first found them about the details of the motor...http://outdoorsbest.zeroforum.com/zerothread?id=302053 Then the second one: http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/003041.html Hope this helps!!! Once you have read those threads do a search on each board there are numerous threads regarding the E-tec...Honestly I can't find anyone truly complaining about this motor and I have been keeping up with it (research) for at least 6 to 7 months. That's why I have since ordered a new 225 HO E-Tec for my new bass boat. Again I hope this helps!!!! Good Luck with your decision!!! ;D ;D Quote
powrofone Posted March 20, 2005 Author Posted March 20, 2005 so Joe... did you buy a boat that comes with a Evinrude as a standard or did you buy a boat and pay to have the motor swapped? The dealers in my area almost exclusively use merc...and to have them put on the E tec is expensive...really expensive...none of the dealers thus far will give me the full value of the merc on trade in so I have to add whatever the difference is to the cost of the e tec PLUS the charge to install the motor...adds thousands to the cost of the rig Quote
joe_schmoe Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 My dealer offered either Evinrude or Yamaha...And it was only a $1000 difference between the two motors. So it was an easy decision for me...I think you should move if a dealer want give you what a new motor is worth just to swap it out... With the four dealers I talked with on my boat and motor, two sold Mercury's and Evinrudes and two sold Yamaha or Evinrudes so I guess I was fortunate in that view...However I am still waiting on the call from my dealer sayign the boat and motor are in. I guess due to the backlog of motors I have a wait!!! I am guessing aweek or two more...But I am hearing that it's worth the wait!!! ;D I'll let you know... Quote
tommyo Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Just got my new boat Triton196 and motor an E-Tech 200 HO. I ran it the first day i got it and I was impressed at how quiet it was and how much power it had out of the hole. It started first turn of the key every time.I will post in a few months and hopefully will still have good news . Quote
