EllisJuan Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 Today was a good day. A few weeks ago I saw forum member post that he had ordered a new boat. I noticed the boat in his sig was about what I was looking for. I shot him a PM and asked him if he planned on selling it. He said he was and we began discussions. I was very pleased to hear the boat only had 75hrs on it. Me being in Memphis, and him being in Oklahoma I wanted to be fairly certain about the purchase before arranging an exchange. He gladly sent me multiple videos and pictures going over the boat. He was very helpful, answered all my questions, represented the boat honestly, and negotiated a fair price with me. I told him I wanted the boat, was going to list my GTO for sale, and hopefully be able to pick it up in a few weeks. Luckily my car sold in 24hrs and we began making plans for the transaction. Thankfully he offered to meet me about half way (~ 3 hours) between our homes at a piece of water off the Arkansas River he was familiar with so we could water test the boat and make the exchange. Today was a beautiful day in Arkansas. We timed our arrivals just about right, he said he arrived about 5 minutes before I did. After walking me around the boat and going over everything, we launched the boat and took her out. As expected the boat ran great and all the equipment functioned as it should have. The Xi5 trolling motor and the Touch 7 working together is very very cool. I have SO much to learn about these pieces of equipment. After exchanging paperwork and money, I gladly shook hiss hand and headed back to Memphis with my new toy in tow. He had two new tires put on earlier this week for me and the boat towed great behind my V6 explorer...hardly even knew it was there. I am pretty stoked about how everything went, and very thankful I was able to find a good boat, owned by a good owner. Thanks again Scot, I'm sorry that you will be boatless for a few weeks, but I am glad I could take her off your hands. Here is the mandatory purchase day picture. Just a quick one because she is pretty dirty from the long trip. I plan on washing her tomorrow and taking a few more... 2006 Pro Team 175 TX 2006 Merc 60hp 4-stroke Motorguide 80# Xi5 Lowrance HDS 7 Touch G2 Lowrance Elite 7 HDI Mercmonitor 9 Quote

UFpwrLifter Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Very nice, congrats. Matches the truck too! I'm looking for a very similar set up. Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted May 8, 2016 Super User Posted May 8, 2016 Congrats on the boat, and he had it rigged up perfectly for ya. Quote
SDoolittle Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Congrats on the new ride! Good luck getting that Oklahoma registration sticker off of the motor. Quote
Super User Further North Posted May 8, 2016 Super User Posted May 8, 2016 Congrats on your new boat, and for finding a good seller to buy from. I hope you enjoy the boat for a long time. Quote
EllisJuan Posted May 9, 2016 Author Posted May 9, 2016 Took her out for the first time this afternoon. I made it out there for about four hours...spent as much time trying to learn the tech as fishing. The boat everything performed flawlessly. This boat is a total game changer for me. Ended up catching two at close to dark on a Rage rigged craw. One dink and one pretty nice fish. 1 Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted May 9, 2016 Super User Posted May 9, 2016 Nice rig. If you don't already own Rod Gloves and Some reel covers for all that $ sitting on the deck you may want to get some. For the small investment, they can help solve the boat rash issue. Another suggestion would be to buy a "butt seat" for you to use/lean against while running the trolling motor. Just a few friendly thoughts/observations... Quote

I was just going to start looking for some Rod Gloves. I have reel covers but switch rods a lot and don't put them until they go back in the rod locker. I have a butt seat, I can't get comfortable on it. I am thinking about trying a different one. Also, I never even took out foot pedal for the trolling motor. I used the remote, the anchor and heading hold pretty much just leaves the pedal in the way. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted May 10, 2016 Super User Posted May 10, 2016 Congrats on the boat! It should treat you right. One suggested purchase is a stainless prop. It'll make you love your boat that much more as take off and handling will be better and you'll probably even gain a little extra speed out of it too. Quote

Check fish kds for rod covers, thats where i get mine.. A lot cheaper than rod glove brand. I use them to keep rods untangled in my rod locker. As for the remote, you are right they are great for open water fishing! Theres a reason you dont see them on pros boats though, they are tricky when dealing with docks, stumps, following cuts in weeds, etc. that goes for all motor steering, not just remote. Quote
EllisJuan Posted May 11, 2016 Author Posted May 11, 2016 Yesterday I noticed my outboard still "peeing" for a bit after being turned off. Is that normal? Quote

Yep totally normal. Your water pump fills up all the cooling passages in the block while the motor is running. When you shut it off your water pump is no longer turning, so gravity does it's work and drains the motor. All you're seeing is some of that draining process while the rest happens under the water.
