Spinnerbait Questions

Hello,

Which are the most rugged spinnerbaits these days?  Best value?  Most vibration?

I have a bunch of Dad's old ones that are very well made.  I don't really want to fish them, though, because where I fish I tend to lose lures. 

I lost my high vibration Mann's I bought a while back, and need a replacement.  That thing shook the rod at very low speeds -- are there others out there like this, or should I get some more Mann's spinnerbaits?

How about best value, ones that I could potentially lose without being out a fortune?

Humdingers best price, Durable, comes through cover great and flat out catches fish.. 1/4 ounce in shallow water with a lot of cover is deadly

First off, look at the blades.  You can almost make any spinnerbait the way you want it once you know what blade configuration you're wanting.  Only ones that are hard to modify are the double willow baits.  Look at Siebert's webisite as he has some nice spinnerbaits as well and I'm sure if you sent him a PM he'd make them the way you asked as long as you asked nicely.

I don't care much about purchasing spinnerbaits these days, I have been fishing with the same Strike King spinnerbaits I purchased like 20 years ago, the only thing I've done is replace the skirts and sharphen the hook.

If you want vibration go with one blade . I   dont understand  why double blades are  so much more popular than single . In my opinion the single is the more versatile and superior fish catcher . The Strike King Midnight Special is the only one I see at the stores now days . I modify my own double bladed lures and like to use a  single willow or a  small turtle back blade . A small turtle back blade puts out a lot of vibration for its size and has done well for me .

Xwhatever it is now for war eagle as far as cost goes.... if money were no option, i'd only fish terminator T1's, they flat out work.

Pepper Custom Spinnerbaits are nice as well. They are IMHO better than the War Eagles and run about the same price if not a little less. Maybe not the most awesome bait in the world but a well built reasonable priced one that works.

strike king banshee series painted blade double willow with stock trailer hook are decent. Terminator for durability when your messing with smallies and pike. Ill throw bargain bin spinnerbaits after I tinker with the blades and skirt/trailer.

Fishing from shore I find using the natural layout of the body of water matters to our advantage. Like where to cast. The color and size plus the speed. I know most of this we already know but I try to explain it to help the new guys to spinnerbaits so they can have success too.

I use a Mann's 1/4oz Indiana gold blades. Blue glimmer skirt, with a 4" mister twister split double tail white grub trimmed to fit, with a trailer hook.  My other set up is the same except for hot chartruese colors.

I stay on the smaller size spinnerbaits too from 1/8oz to 1/4oz. The cheaper smaller spinnerbaits will work if I follow my setup with them. The blue glimmer skirt or hot chartruese skirts seems to be my snitch for my area.

My biggest loss in spinnerbait fishing is the larger Pickerel try to rip it off my line, with success too. The closed eye spinnerbaits allows me to use a 6" steel cable leader.

My first successful spinnerbait setup was a Mann's 1/8 single Indiana gold blade (i up sized one blade size for a tad more thump)) blue glimmer skirt with a 4" split double tail grub trimmed to fit. You can make this setup from any cheap spinnerbait.

Remember to "skip" fan cast the area. Don't put your casts next to one another. Skip over casts. Try a faster line speed above the "sight line"  where we can see it and a slower line speed so it's below the sight line were it's out of our sight. I prefer soft gentle casts when it enters the water. I cast past my targeted area and bring my spinnerbait to it.

You can also yo-yo a spinnerbait too. By letting it fall and bring it up and repeat, etc.

Other than dragging it over the top of muck or punching, I ain't found too many ways I CAN'T fish an H&H spinnerbait and if I lose one?  Ok...I got more...lol

The ones that go on sale for 3/10 bucks from booyah and strike King, sports authority had some good ones on the ground for a buck for a few years...staney wedge has some cool looking blades and sizes....But  I use the Terminator when I use them lately because I found a bunch on sale but the BPS Lazer Eyes seem to be most prevelent in my box.

I used to use a spinnerbait all the time, not as much anymore, but I should....If they spin and have flash without twist, then they should work....I still like a hammered gold single colorodo blade with white skirt, or tandem willow in silver white flash for burning...I usually use 3/8 I think most of the time....The Pond Magic smaller size and beetle spin are really good as well, especially in tough areas...Don't forget, Inline are still being made for bass, the Hildenbrandt Snagless Sally is still popular on the Big O and comes through everything and has a better hook up than the terminator imo...They are expensive though..Close to $10 but quality...I did have a wordens drum roller I found on clearance that came with a Z Man Diezal minnow and short arm for weeds and shallow water...It was really good until I threw it into a tree, have not seen them around but then again, Jig Spinners are cheap, add a swimbait or fluke...no skirt needed...big Beetle spin....

Saltwater guys love the red fish Magic and Saltwater Assassin spinnerbaits for red fish, and the Berkley Mullet Spin which is a 1/2 beetle spin that works good for Bass...I think any spinnerbait is fine as long as it has a good hook, does not roll, and the blades do not fly off...Bass See it and smack it, The only thing I notice with the expensive one's are they are more streamlined and have better detail, but can't say any are better than a Lazer Eye or Booyah imo...Just google Jimmy Houston, I think he throws only Booyah these days, and of course on of the blades is yellow or orange...
