Brandon Moss Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I am trying to figure out what rod to get. It's primary use will be for jerkbaiting and it will be paired up with a Daiwa Tatula 6.4:1. The three rods I've narrowed it down to is: St. Croix Triumph X 6'6" Med Falcon Bucoo 6'6" Med or the Abu Garcia Veritas 6'6" Med What is your opinion? *** *** Black is not an option because I have doubts about their craftmanship. Super User Senko lover Posted May 6, 2016 Super User Posted May 6, 2016 At the risk of being a jerk and not giving you an opinion on the three you mentioned, the rod that got bleeped out has some of the best craftmanship and high-end feel of any rod I've used in the $100 range. Just putting that out there. 1 Quote

Also rather unsettling that they are willing to sell a $100 rod with a $100 reel for, wait for it $100. Guess the Triumph X is out. 1 Quote
d-camarena Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I can vouch for bucoo. In my opinion the best rod at that price. They can take a beating, just dont get the micro guides. Quote

Guess the Triumph X is out. what? i don't follow... you've "narrowed it down" to three rods, as in like done some research i assume, but because one of them is taking part in a killer promotion they're out? this is truly uncharted territory i believe... good luck with your decision. 6 Quote
(='_'=) Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 i have a Veritas (old one from about 4 years ago), and a Bucoo Microguide... out of the two i would get the Bucoo without a doubt... on the Veritas a guide broke when i got snageed, i was pulling to get the lure free and suddenly the third or fourth guide just poped loose... i also dont like the real seat much, it chipped and wouldnt hold the reel properly, i had to use a ziptie to fix it... its a light rod, i still use it almost every time out, but out of those two rods, i prefer the Bucoo, better quality IMO.... both of mine are microguides, and i dont complain about them... Super User Gundog Posted May 6, 2016 Super User Posted May 6, 2016 Bucoo because I can't spend good money on a fishing rod made outside of the US. Quote
PennBass Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I've heard good things about the Bucoo. St. Croix is a great company but I don't have faith in their rods made with less than SCIII. Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 If you can justify dropping a few extra bucks, the new Mojo Bass are great rods. 2 Quote
BronzeChaser Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I used to use a veritas for jerkbaits, but it broke. IMO they are a little too stiff for treble hook baits, unless you get the winch series. I would go with the bucoo out of the rods you listed. They are great rods for what they cost. With that being said, the number after 12 rod is better to me, and it's what I use for jerkbaits. Quote

That was my reaction too. Whaaattt??? Buy the croix, sell the reel for $75 and enjoy a $25 rod. Then if you dont like it buy whatever you want and sell the croix for profit or keep it. 3 Quote
punch Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Just FYI, if you're considering the Veritas (which are great rods) I'd suggest going one power lower. If you want a medium, get a medium light. They tend to run a little stiff. For a jerkbait rod I'd look at a 6'6 ML veritas. I've learned this lesson and always buy them one power lower than what I want nowadays. 1 Quote

Buy one power lower than you would in most other lines. Quote

Super User fishballer06 Posted May 6, 2016 Super User Posted May 6, 2016 Spend a few dollars extra and get the Ike series 6'4". It's a must have better jerkbait rod than any of the other rods you listed and it's only $20 more. Quote

lakeannaangler Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 From what I've heard falcon bucoo mediums are pretty light action. But if I had to pick one it would be the bucoo Quote

Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted May 7, 2016 Super User Posted May 7, 2016 How dare St Croix sell a 7'6" Legend Elite for for $130 no way am I getting one of those, or a LTB for $115, something is up must not be very good rods. 3 Quote
Robert Riley Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 I despise the veritas for anything except cranking. Never used a bucoo. I had a triumph for 5 years, broke 2 weeks after the 5 year warranty expired. I'd go with the triumph X over those 2. Quote
