gamblerOH Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 i would try a 4 blade prop. they are better out of the hole and the extra blade will help to lower the rpm's. sounds like you could stay with the same pitch just go to a 4 blade Quote
minnesota_bass Posted March 11, 2005 Author Posted March 11, 2005 i thougt the same thing but cant seem to find a stainless 4 blade for my sized motor anyone know anything about ballistic props heard there suposed to have great holeshots and good top speed Quote
flippnfish Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 If you go to your local dealer, they will usually loan you different props to try out. you may go through 10 props before you find one that suits your rig....When you find it buy it. Don't just buy one and not test it first. Quote
Skeeter_Madness Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Minnesota: Recommend contacting Mark (317) 398-9294 at Mark's Props to seek a recommendation. He's one of the best out there. Quote
GamblerFL Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 How high are you running your motor on the transom? Of course with most props you lose in one area and gain in another. If you run a low pitch like 15 to 19 you can usually plane off pretty fast but you dont have the top end because you are turning too many rpm's. A high pitch like you have or higher you usually cant get on plane fast but pick up a lot of top end. Most of the time with a pretty high pitch the problem you have is not getting the rpm's high enough. I run a 26 pitch on my 150. (It came with the boat) I dont plane off real fast but the boat will run right at 70 on the gps. It is a 4-blade prop. I dont know if you bought your boat new or not but a lot of the times you will find people will jack the motor up on the transom. Once you get going and you get the boat trimed up out of the water the motor is running so high it will almost cavatate and will send the rpm's up high. Quote
minnesota_bass Posted March 17, 2005 Author Posted March 17, 2005 thanks I just ordered a 24 pitch ballistic prop turns out the prop that was on my boat someone had tried to redo but really messed it up keeping my fingers crossed on the 24 but my dealer said it would work great get it on fri supposed to be snowing and cold but the river is open and i have a snomobile helmet never too cold as long as i can find water wish me luck!!!! GamblerFL Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 I hope it works out good for you. Thats a lot of pitch for a 125. I think if the motor isnt too high on the transom you might find you will have a problem getting out of the hole. Quote
minnesota_bass Posted March 17, 2005 Author Posted March 17, 2005 i have a 5.5 inch jack plate. A lot of 17foot nitros with 125s seem to be running 24s there claiming anywhere from 57 to 62 gps Quote
GamblerFL Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Thats good speed for that boat. If you still have a problem with the rpm's I would look into lowering the plate a little to see if that helps. Quote
minnesota_bass Posted March 17, 2005 Author Posted March 17, 2005 let you know how it works out the only garentee is that i will get cold Quote
GamblerFL Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Yes let me know. I would be interested in that. It is pretty wild about motors these days. The power they have to spin the props is so much better than it used to be. I know back in the late 70's we would have been happy if we were able to run a 21 pitch. Quote
ernel Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 You can also get someone to watch your rooster tail when you get your boat on plane. If you are throwing a real high rooster tail, then you will need to lower your motor. This will cause your motor to not only over rev, but will cut down on the over all performance of your motor. You will have a hard time making turns at speed without the nose staring to bounce due to prop blow-out. Gas milage will suffer also. Quote
minnesota_bass Posted March 19, 2005 Author Posted March 19, 2005 tried my prop yesterday it was a blizzard up here we got 8 inches of snow and it was only about 25degrees but i still had too try it I got 58.6 mph gps think i had a little more but it was just too cold holeshot was great too thanks everyone for all the advice ;D ;D ;D ;D Quote
