I recently purchased two of the x-rap sub walk 15 (6 inches 2.4oz) to fish for stripers during the summer that I usually spend on Long Island. However, the hooks that come on the bait are not saltwater hooks unfortunately. Will changing the hooks to something like owner st-66s affect the action? I'm worried the bait won't walk properly, but then again I wouldn't want a hook breaking on a thirty pound striper.

Thanks

I don't see how changing hooks could affect the action of a big bait like that.

I miss striper fishing on Long Island..........Montauk?

Owners STX 58 is perfect for this application. I use this hook on my swimbaits when big stripers  are likely to In the area, very strong hook and not heavy.

Speaking of owner hooks, it's all I use.  Strong, sharp and easy to re-sharpen.  I do hear a lot of oooh's and aaaah's over the trocar hooks from eagle claw, so I feel tempted to give them a try, but owners are so good, it wouldn't be because I feel the need to change

Should make it walk easier, will have less drag than with the thick coated saltwater hooks.

I just got some st-66's to put on one of my swimbaits and I think they're awesome.

However, if you don't mind spending the extra 50 cents a hook those stx 58s do look amazing.

I wish I would have known about those before I bought the 66s, they are appealing and probably worth the extra cost
