I like the Zoom Ol' Monster, Netbait C-Mac, YUM Mighty worm, Strike King Bull worm, and the 10" Power worm.

I fish them on homemade swinging football heads that I pour with a 5/0-7/0 EWG hook. I usually just drag them slowly along the bottom.

Do you reel set them? I plan on going to that exact setup this summer and I'm interested in the hook set.

You are not going to be hooking very many fish using a reel set.  You are fishing with big, thick hooks buried in soft plastic and trying to drive that big hook through the plastic and a big basses tough jaw.  Swing hard enough to cross there eyes.

My new favorite is KC's Fat Treat Worm. I like to rig it on a Buckeye Lures Magnum Goby Sled. The sled design keeps the bait on the bottom without rolling.

I also have a couple of those Vendetta rods that used to be in my regular lineup. They are stiffer than the typical medium casting rod and I had no problem sticking bass with jigs or plastic worms with that rod.

Due to the shape I find that the Draggin Heads sit on the bottom with the hook point up. On other weighted swimbait hooks the hook has a tendency to fall over on it's side (exposing the point to more frequent snags).

That is good to hear, thanks!

I just use a standard T rig hookset and haven't had any reason to change.

Texas rig a 7" Senko. It will work just as well as larger worms. Just rig it on a 5/0 - 7/0 worm hook. No weight needed. You'll get bit. :)

Resurrecting an old thread…anyone know of any off the shelf 5/0-7/0 swing heads? Thinking it’d be a great option for large worms in deep water this summer but can’t think of any.

Gamakatsu has a individual tungsten swing head in various weights to use with hook of your choosing but they’re $10 a pop. Hoping there’s something a little more cost effective out there.

Tried that, nothing larger than a 5/0

The gambler wrecking ball, add your own split ring and hook of choice.  I've used the mustad fastech as well.

I also have the gamakatsu tungsten one you were avoiding in the initial post.  That one has lost a 8" hags tornado for me.  I think the large mass of big worms is detrimental to those pig tail designs.  The mustad has never lost one, but I also stopped throwing big worms on that because of the gammy.  I now only eel comfortable with a more positive connection like the gambler.

Why not just use/make a Jika Rig?

If you have hooks, weights and split rings, you're all set!

I'm sold solid on the Zoom 12" Ol Monsters, the newer fatter version. I fish them year round down here in the Florida everglades. I use them with a 6/0-7/0 VMC offset hook which I de-barb. Reason I like them so much is they catch BIG trophy fish! Not only that but they can be used over and over. They cast a country mile unweighted. I've caught as many as 10 nice fish before replacement--consistently. Must be a special plastic or something but they've sure proved their durability to me. They flat out hold together, even ripped up a bit. Other worms like Senko can go through a whole pack in a matter of minutes! They do work and catch fish but it's sure nice to use a worm and catch the fish economically!

When Zoom came out with their "Magnum" series of plastics they went from a proven bass killer to a proven Hawg Killer.

No kidding, I usually catch 6-7 pounders and up on them. Is why I posted about them. They catch the hawgs but catch them over and over, same worm! Just the other day I caught three hawgs on the same worm!  Yep, I'm sold lol

Mann's Jelly Worm, Culprit and Zoom Ole Monster.   Unlike many of my brother anglers, I use round bend, offset worm hooks. They sit farther back in the worm and have more bite than most EWGs. They also have a thinner diameter which I find beneficial for long distance hooksets.

For worms like the C-Mac. I just upsize to a 5/0.
