Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted May 4, 2016 Super User Posted May 4, 2016 I'm looking for some ideas for whisky or bourbon pairings to go with my cigars. Perhaps a nice wine of some kind. Not really feeling like branching into the world of Scotch right now. I have too much invested in Cognac right now to delve into Scotch. Quote

Super User 00 mod Posted May 4, 2016 Super User Posted May 4, 2016 I have little knowledge of cigars- but can suggest many offerings in any price range you want as far as bourbon goes! Jeff 3 Quote

Super User Redlinerobert Posted May 4, 2016 Super User Posted May 4, 2016 Big fan of Arturo Fuente cigars. The Opus X are amazing. I especially like the Fuente Fuente Super Belicoso. Pair with anything that Jeff suggests and you're in for a great evening. 2 Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 As for bourbon, Wild Turkey's Rare Breed has become one of my favorites and it goes great with medium to full flavor smokes. 1 Quote

We had a "cigar bar" at my wedding and these were my cigars of choice. Now on the rare occasion that i indulge in a cigar, the short story is my go-to. 2 Quote

Both 101 and Rare Breed have become my standard bourbons for regular sipping. They're delicious and not $60+/bottle. 1 Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted May 7, 2016 Super User Posted May 7, 2016 Nice. That looks like a whiskey that wants to be cognac when it grows up. Quote

My go to as of now. Granted it is a cognac and not a bourbon. Quote

I have quite enjoyed the Arturo Fuentes I have tried they are very good. Currently I've been trying the CLE smokes, Asylum 13 (which is produced by CLE), lots of boutique blends, and My Fathers. I never thought about the different wild turkey varients. I like some Woodford too. I think it should pair nicely. The Pappy is going to have to wait a bit, The next high dollar bottle I invest in is going to be Louis XIII cognac. I have however been wanting to try the Pappy for a while, yall have all gotten me very curious about it. Super User Choporoz Posted May 9, 2016 Super User Posted May 9, 2016 I don't drink, but I know a little bit about cigars. I typically pair with coffee, root beer or water. I smoke 3-6 cigars a day....sometimes more when fishing. The last 5 boxes I bought (in the last month) were from Tatuaje, La Palina, and Crowned Heads, (and H Uppman and Por Larranaga from vendors not 'local'.) For fishing, I look for some specific qualities in my cigars: little bit cheaper so I won't be upset if it ends up in the water or the bottom of the boat;, cigar that continues to burn well and taste good if I have to leave it hanging out of my mouth for minutes at a time; and I prefer a box press that won't roll around on the boat seat if I set it down. Famous Nicaraguan 3000 fits that description nearly perfectly. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted May 9, 2016 Super User Posted May 9, 2016 I can't believe how much Louis XIII has gone up in price in the last several years. 1 Quote

I will try a few different brands in my next order though. Tatuaje is another brand I have been wanting to try. My current go to is the VUDU dark number 9. Not as full bodied as some of the otherstuff out there. However, it taste amazing and smokes really well. 6 hours ago, Redlinerobert said: I can't believe how much Louis XIII has gone up in price in the last several years. You aren't kidding. Super User Redlinerobert Posted May 10, 2016 Super User Posted May 10, 2016 The most extreme cognac I've ever tasted was Hennessy Ellipse. A friend bought a bottle upon his retirement. There's really nothing I can compare it to. 1 Quote
