I'm looking at buying me a graph for my console, the one that is sticking out for me is the helix 10. What are the benifits of the kvd edition one of the standard si version? Or am I barking up the wrong tree, and there are better options out there for the money. I have no graph up front as of right now so it doesn't have to be brand specific. I would like link able units(keep in mind I know basically nothing about graphs, I don't really know what I'm looking at/for right now)

No difference except you get some red bling, and either a book or some lures with the KVD version.

Same price.

The Helix 9, Helix 10, and Helix 12 models are all linkable via Ethernet to share GPS data, sonar data, sensors, and Ethernet accessories.

You can cross-share sonar technologies such as display Side Imaging on a 2D or DI model.

The SI, DI, and 2D models are all 360 compatible.

So if I bought the si model for the console, I could just put a standard sonar model up front and have all the features of the one in the console?

No...you won't have side imaging at the bow if the unit up there is not a side imaging unit.  I Just finished helping a friend install an Helix 9 SI at the console and a DI at the front...the DI can see his 360°, but it cannot see the SI transducer at the transom.

Yes you would. Cross-sharing sonar technologies was added to Ethernet models about two years ago.

It is done by knowing how to operate the units. The setting is in the Ethernet menu under ADVANCED

If you had a 360 you can use that to have a DI and SI view with a DI or 2D model.

As simple as knowing how to operate the units.

The XX9 models, Helix 9,10, 12, and ONIX and ION models will cross share sonar technologies.

If you had a XX8 Side Imaging model, you can share Side Imaging with the non-SI models of the XX9 and Helix models too.

Maybe...but the option isn't there...nor is the screen for SI...and the the SI transducer doesn't show up on the DI unit's network.

If we're missing something, an answer a little more informative than "FALSE" would be appreciated.

I described it in my answer to Dan. Imaging is the ADVANCED tab in the Ethernet menu.

The SI unit can display the dedicated DI from the DI unit if the DI unit is selected as the source for Sonar.

Bottom line is all the sonar technologies are shareable, just need a source for the processed data.

So if I did it that way would both units be working off of the rear transducer? Or would some of the bow mounted screens still be off the trolling motor transducer?

Thanks - we'll double check, but I didn't see it Saturday.  The menus are different enough from mine (x98) that I may have missed it.

My 798 can see and use my 1198 transom transducer, so I know that works.

Is the helix 12 worth the price difference to get the chirp?

Not in my opinion. I see no difference between CHIRP and non-CHIRP for the depths I fish---35' max.

The unit chirps the standard transducer.

Some comparison screen shots:

When there is a true CHIRP transducer available maybe.

I got the Helix 12 SI GPS for the larger display and higher resolution to display the 360.

Makes perfect sense.
