YakSlayer Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 So i live down here in central texas, lots of kayak fishing and lots of kayak fishing tournaments.. most of the time its for bass.. Our water sucks down here in both lakes, and im trying to gear myself towards the water. My question is, am i better off going with darker color plastics and lures like black, watermelon, etc.. i keep getting varying answers and cant seem to find the consensus on what is good for low clarity water situations, especially after getting lots of rain. Based on my experience, i use very dark colors for crappy water situations. If the water is more clear, i move it up to something brighter but will still throw those darker colors since i still do very well with them even in the best water conditions. Quote

Super User WRB Posted May 2, 2016 Super User Posted May 2, 2016 Welcome. Color is 1 factor to consider and lures that put off a lot of vibration or move a lot of water is another factor to consider. Bottom bumping lures like jigs and worms dark main color with high contrasting highlites like neon blue or chartruese work good. Adding rattles or using jigs with built in rattles will help. Worms with fast moving tails move more water then straight tails. Buzz baits and other noisy surface lures like Pompadour are also good choices. Deep diving crankbaits push a lot of water, have rattles and work good. Good luck. Tom Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 3, 2016 Super User Posted May 3, 2016 How Y'all Are? What lakes? Don't get hung up thinking certain colors only work in certain water clarifies! Bass do not read color charts! Pick a color & let the bass tell ya what they think! 1 Quote

YakSlayer Posted May 4, 2016 Author Posted May 4, 2016 I fish stillhouse hollow lake and belton lake. I like fishing Still house a little more since theres alot more places to get around on. Today i was using a DHP Bait. 4 inch stick..Basically a senko. caught a few bass but they were short by about a half inch to be keepers. just doing texas rigged style. Next time out, ill try wacky rigged etc. Water temp was about 71 degrees and i was fishing about 15 foot deep water. i was pretty surprised to be able to see pretty far down to the bottom. water was more clear than i anticipated.
