Global Moderator Mike L Posted May 3, 2016 Global Moderator Posted May 3, 2016 Well, I guess I'm the odd ball here. I don't use mono anymore for anything. Don't use leaders either. I just don't see the need for how and where I chose to fish. My line of choice is either braid 65# or 30# depending on what I'm doing and where. 12# Yo Zuri for all moving baits, and for the few times I use a finesse presentation 16# Sniper for all bottom contact. Am I wrong? Maybe... Sometimes I think I'm lowering my chances to have a better outing when the inevitable happens. We all have those days when we question our choices. Mike 1 Quote

Mike Funny how we can live in the same county and fish such completely different water and situations! If I threw 30 or 65 braid at the reds and snook they'd spook for Ft. Myers Beach. If I caught one the braid would fray off instantly. Just saying...... Quote

I fished the exact same water you do for 30+ years useing the same equipment, rigged the same way, in the same areas of the same local salt water's everyone else does. I was not talking about fishing for red's, trout, snook etc. My preference for using what I do in my response was for bass in the waters I choose to fish now. In my old age I made a decision to commit to a dream to be a tournament bass angler almost exclusively now that I have the means and time. I may be doing it all wrong, if so I'll find out soon enough, but so far I certainly don't have any regrets.. Just trying to give the OP an different perspective. It's his choice to put any credence to it. Mike 1 Quote

Mike I honestly didn't mean anything by that but honestly meant that it is just funny, odd or interesting how we both fish the same places for the same fish in such completely different if not opposite ways. I spoke of salty fish but only see them when I catch them in sweetwater. I know from our talks that you fish the brine as well as your tournament interests. I know you were speaking about your sweetwater knowledge, were just giving the o.p. the value of your experience and as the "police" so quickly pointed out, that this is a bass forum. Quote

Super User Raul Posted May 4, 2016 Super User Posted May 4, 2016 We are going to settle this once and for all: the biggest fish ever caught with rod and reel, a 3,427 lb shark was caught with nylon, and FYI, it was ---------> BERKLEY TRILENE BIG GAME. 1 Quote

Yeah, and that was the good stuff, before they changed it, and went from great to very good. Quote
