Braided line suggestion

Looking for recommendations for braided line for my Shimano Sienna 4000. Primarily will be for saltwater casting from the shoreline at the beach trying to catch whatever will take a lure. Basically this is a vacation rig.

Has power pro made changes/improvements in recent years?  I haven't been bassin since like 2012 and then I remember everyone steering clear of it.

I found PowerPro Original to be significantly noisier than the line it replaced...Sufix Performance....both in 40#.  Performance is very good and cheaper than many.  Samurai may be better, but is costlier.  It is thin for its rating compared to many braids, but that is because it breaks closer to it rated strength than many.  If you only plan on using it while on vacation, then I would go with Sufix Performance (my 1st choice) or PowerPro Original.  Either will be more than capable for your use.

 

EDIT:  PowerPro replaced the Performance only because Walmart didn't carry Performance.  I was on vacation and had to replace the line due to line twist from throwing a 3/4 oz. saltwater spoon on it for about 5 hours straight with it tied direct.  Learned my lesson.

Noise doesn't happen to bother me, but PP
Super Slick 8 is less noisy than the regular
PP. I have it on a couple of my reels now and
am starting to prefer it over regular PP.

Daiwa Samurai and Sufix 832 are the best two braids I've used.

Seaguar Kanzen will outcast PP by a long shot. I use it for flinging paddletail grubs like a Keitech for smallmouth. It cast a mile and has held up great, going into it's 3rd season now.

I've alternated between PowerPro original, Sufix performance and Sufix 832 and not seen any appreciable difference between them to make me prefer one over the other.  All have served me equally well.

15 or 20 lb class in either is my preference on Shimano 4000 sized reels.  You'll want more of the smaller line to be able to handle longer runs -- just make sure you use an appropriate mono or fluoro leader to reduce bite-offs from toothy saltwater critters.

Sufix 832, PowerPro, and many other brands work great, but personally I prefer TufLine XP because its 2x cheaper per yard and it's got amazing abrasion resistance.

I've fished Power Pro (both the regular and super slick), 832, Spiderwire, and P-line TCB Braid.  Power Pro is great line, use it saltwater fishing, just needs to be broke in some.  Spiderwire same thing.  Now when you get into the Super Slick, 832, and TCB 8, they are all 8 straid braids which makes them quite and smooth.  Right now I'm really liking the TCB 8 over 832 (which is great braid but fades really fast) and I won't use Super Slick as both the others outperform it.  If it's just a vaction rod, stick with the regular Power Pro and go fishing.  No need to get into expesive 8 carrier braids when the original will meet all your needs.

i'm with chris on this one....  whichever of the 3 is on sale is what i'm buying.  i'd say 20lb would be well suited for the 4000 rig.

Awesome! Sounds like the majority like PowerPro or Sufix. Definitely will use a flouro leader.

After trying about every braid out there I would never put anything but 832 Sufix on any reel I own,,, for  4000 size Shimano I would string it with 20 lbs test and use a mono or Fluoro leader of lighter weight, if you are targeting larger species go with 30# test, it is about the same diameter as most other 20# braids. I would never consider Power Pro on any reel ever again, it and the offerings from Spyderwire will never go on one of my reels again, If I could not use or get 832 again I would use Fireline, and I don't mean the Fireline Braid, I found it to be as bad as Power Pro. Sufix 832, and Fireline fused are the most abrasion resistant lines I have found from any of the Synthetics, but the 832 will flow smoother thru the guides with less noise and drag and cast a mile, it also is smaller diameter than most other braids # test for # test.

Put Suffix 832 on all my Baitcasters for the first time... I love it....

Any.  They're all over engineered.  you should be able to put 30-40# line on a 4000 series reel with no issue.

You may also look into the U.S.A. Braid line which is Spectra line made by Honeywell in - the USA.

You can get this online from Walmart and delivered to a local Walmart store for free shipping.  Costs less than $30 for a 500 yard spool.  I fish freshwater and tried 10# test in the orange color and it worked quite well with a flouro leader. I used a black marker to darken the six feet of line before the leader. I like the orange because I can see it and the line seems to work well on my small spinning reels.

I was alerted to this line by a member of this forum last year, I think his forum name was Sirsnookalot.  He was a saltwater guy who had a practical approach to things and I found his recommendation for this braid to be a good one.

All braids are made with either Dyneema or Spectra.

Never used it, but I've used Power Pro, which uses Spectra fiber.
