Super User Marty Posted March 4, 2005 Super User Posted March 4, 2005 Been thinking about getting a canoe. Wondering about storage. I have no good place to store one, just a back yard. How do you canoe owners store yours during the season? During the winter in a place that receives heavy snow? How do you secure it against theft? Appreciate any info. Quote
coldsteel Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Marty, I live in Ohio, so i get a decent amount of snow...We hav a garage, not to big but we got some of those tree stand footing things and screwed them into the 2x4's real high and made a liddle harness thing for our canoe... ;D The harness is made of rope and has 2 large loops that slip over both ends of the canoe. above these loops about 3 feet are 2 smaller loops that slip over the treestand grips, then between the 2 large loops there is a rope that connects the 2 large loops, this rope is fastened permanently to one loop and has a removable clip on the other side. So when you hang up your canoe you slip the 2 large loops over the ends of the canoe and fasten the clip so the 2 large loops cant spread apart or slip off the ends. Then you lift one end of the canoe and hook the small loop to the tree stand grip, then do same to other side. Sorry if you cant understand this...i tried ;D I would put a picture but i dont have one... Quote
coldsteel Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 i got some pics now! this is a pic of the top loop and the tree stand grip thing this is a pic of the big loop over the end of canoe and this is a dark pic of the whole canoe on the wall. If you notice the 2 loops on ether side there is a rope holding both together on the other side of the canoe. Quote
Super User Marty Posted March 6, 2005 Author Super User Posted March 6, 2005 Thanks for taking the time to explain and post the pics. If I had that option, I might be more willing to buy. My garage is very small and there's no way I could get a canoe in there. If I get one, it's gonna have to stay in the back yard. Thanks again. (Good looking bikes). Quote
coldsteel Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 lol...well...you could possible stick it in the attic somehow... ;D even if you have an extra 2 1/2 feet in your garage it should fit easily. Quote
NJ_Stump_Grinder Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 I have a 17' Grumman and a 15' aluminum deep V. In the winter I throw a few 2x4's accross the deep V and invert the canoe on top of the 2x4's. I then throw a heavy poly tarp over both. The canoe keeps the snow from weighing down the tarp and filling up the boat, and I get both covered in one shot. Not too bad for a dummy...... huh.... LOL Quote

LOL Doesn't sound very dumb to me. I would have to do something like that, as the garage is not an option. What do you do with the canoe during the season? Quote
NJ_Stump_Grinder Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 most of the time it's just left upside down next to my shed since it hardly gets any use. Quote
