Pointer Puppy

My cousin's bird dog had puppies last week, and he's giving me one as a retirement gift! I've been an avid upland hunter my whole life, and I've shared the field with many great dogs, but I've been unable to have one of my own for the past few years due to deployments. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited!

Since I'm in Kuwait for another week and a half, and I can't see them in person, my cousin keeps sending me pictures. I can't wait to see them in person and pick out my new hunting buddy!

Isn't Kuwait fun! Haha cute pups I spent 10 months at KNB bouncing from there to all over when I was deployed but KNB was "home"

I'm at Buehring. This is a nice, relaxing deployment compared to my previous deployments up north. It's boring here more than anything. I'm just glad that I'm leaving before summer really sets in. Seven days and a wake up!

I hated Burhring we did our EIB there. I got to fish while at KNB so it wasn't to bad. The summer heat is brutal I arrived this time of the year last week actually was 3 years from when I got there. 7 days and a wake up is awesome feeling knowing it's the home stretch most gear has already left on the slow boat connex at this point and your just doing briefings about what you can and cannot take back to the states.

I was here for two weeks in August of 2005 en route to my first tour in Iraq. You're right about the summer heat being brutal. A mid-day trip to the porta-jon was practically a death sentence. There's nowhere to fish around Buehring, but I've spent a whole lot of time pitching, flipping, and casting to various targets. I may not be able to catch a fish, but I'm deadly accurate.

Nothing better than having your own dog to hunt behind.  My GSP Ranger is a machine, just love watching him work.  One thing I learned is the guy with the dog still has work to do when the hunt is over.

I wish we had upland birds to hunt in NY populations are so low but I do feel pheasants are on the rise I've seen 6 so far this year 3 hens and 3 roosters and always alone in different areas no near each other. Hoping they are making a come back I kill enough fox in my one property to help the pheasants and I know the owner says he's been seeing more also so I like to think it's helping.

Unfortunately thats the trend everywhere pheasants reside clayton.  Loss of habitat because the "stewards of the land" want to turn it into crop production, removing marginal land and tearing up other areas of grassland, wetlands, and wind rows.  All you have to do is look at Iowa.  About a decade ago, they harvested over a million roosters there annually.  Now the recent count is about 150,000 birds.

I remember as a kid my uncle taking me pheasant hunting but now he can't go because all of the places he use to hunt now have houses on them. Its a shame. Its kind of the reason I stopped hunting. The place I use to hunt for deer was bought and posted "No Hunting" so I had to go to state game lands which were crowded and dangerous. The first time I went archery hunting on state game land a guy shot an arrow that landed 10 feet from where I was sitting. That was the end of hunting for me.

Been training trialing and breeding pointers and setters for a good portion of my life. Ok's misfortune with weather will be your fortune when you come home. You finally have water there and Texas we know what that means,QUAIL. BEST OF LUCK!!! And remember dogs are really the only thing that make sense in this crazy world.

I'm late to the conversation. But my grandpa had a German shorthair . And it was the best bird dog I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. She would point a bird for at least 2-3 minutes . Which absolutely blew my mind because when we wernt hunting, she was a total spaz. It was fun. She was the workhorse. Shed hunt em up, point em, Wed blast em and shed go get them and bring em back to us. I'll never forget how the warm bodies of those birds felt against my back when I put them in my vest. Good memories.
