fishman393 Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Ok so I went and bought a boat 2003 alumacraft with 90hp no water close to test run boat.but k got to see the the motor run and start great.no problems. So I take it to the dmv get it in my name and all the legal stuff. Take it to the lake and low and behold it's taking on about 2 gallons a hour. Checked all drain plugs and live well no leaks. Take it home and fill it with water and watch I find a cheap weld patch and a crack in front of it.. geerr. So to my question in the picture I removed floor above cracks and removed foam. The crack is in the circled area. Did I remove enough for some one to weld the for me? I did it to save monet and want it welded top and bottom? Quote
SHIMANOFAN Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 I'm not a professional welder but I do know how to weld (disclaimer). I would have to say yes you have it cleared enough but any decent welder will charge a bit more for having to grind that gorilla patch off the bottom but at least when their finished you should have a simple seam inside and out and not that huge rough patch on the outside unless the hole is wider than appears in the pictures. Super User Master Bait'r Posted April 29, 2016 Super User Posted April 29, 2016 Ouch. I'd be contacting that seller!! In any case, you're off to a good start. Any welder is going to want to prep their own way anyways. You've definitely got it most of the way there though! Quote
Buckeye Ron Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Easy fix for an experienced welder. If I was welding it I would want more of the foam removed as that is nasty stuff when it gets hot. Not trying to scare you but given that the seller apparently forgot to mention this little issue, wonder what else he forgot to tell you about? Quote
fishman393 Posted April 30, 2016 Author Posted April 30, 2016 I was ticked at the guy but. What can I say my fault I should of known when I could not take it to water to just wait. But for 4100. I could not pass. I had it on the water and don't see any other problems with it yet. It rode nice and the trolling motor with i pilot is amazing. Hoping this is all. The only other thing is wiring that I am working on and making the live well run the right way all and all I get to miss spawn time. Lol Quote

Lol I hope you are able to get it fixed and out on the water soon. Last week I decided to change out the water pump impeller and instead of it being a 60 minute job it turned out to be a two day job. I think I have it back together now but this weekend is shot. Maybe next weekend? Quote
fishman393 Posted April 30, 2016 Author Posted April 30, 2016 I hoping in the next two weeks for me still waiting for someone to have the time to weld it. Small town drama. The only two people in this town are booked up for the next 2-3 weeks so gives me time to mess with stuff. Until then I have my john boat until it sales. Got 1 guy looming at it tomorrow. Hope it sales but want to fish. Lol Quote
thomas15 Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 I can relate somewhat. I have a long list of small things I want to do to the boat and I did get most of them completed. So that's a good thing I guess. I installed a new sonar and also one of those fake wood blocks on the transom to mount the transducer and the spedo pitot tube. Also a new bow seat, fixed the running lights and the TM which worked but needed some attention. So now I need to get the motor to idle properly, I had the carbs off and I think something is interfearing with the linkage. Clean up the hull and change the gear oil. All small stuff but I'm anxious to get out on the water. Again I hope you can get it fixed soon and that there are no other big surprises. Quote

Lol That's a nice looking rig - we never see the bass style Alumacraft boats up in this neck of the woods...which is a shame. Just for giggles, I priced out a current version, and it came in @ about $30, 600 with a 115 Suzuki and a decent trailer...their online choices for electronics leave a lot to be desired, I assumed I'd keep what I have. ...too bad about the hull problem, but you'll get it figured out and ready to go. Super User fishnkamp Posted May 8, 2016 Super User Posted May 8, 2016 You did all you need to do for your welder. A good welder will get that done in no time. I have had a few projects done on my boats and trailers. It always helps to have a good welder in your Rolodex! Ha Ha Quote
tander Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 That shouldn't be a problem. My welder said he can weld anything but the break of day or a broken heart. 1 Quote
fishman393 Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 Well he got it welded for me. He only charged me 67 dollars to fix. He said he can't promise it will work.he welded both side he said Could last a day or could last a life time. Lol. He said he has done 3 of the same boat in the same spot and none came back so far.. Kinda scary well I got to put it all back together and give her a shot. Might think about saling but would hate to give someone else a problem. Quote

Sounds like he gave you a good price on the weld job. Good luck with it. Quote
