You bend your knees as you throw it, as opposed to twisting at the waist as is usually done in karate. I sink at the knees, and have a definite start and stop, the stop being terminated by a tightening of the hand and arm. It's just like the punch I've been throwing for years. It's not a wide arc, but it's very fast and powerful. I've been hooking a lot of gar recently, and this technique has me penetrating their bony mouths. It does work well. Regards, Josh Interesting Josh. I might give that one a try. I know power comes from the legs. 7 minutes ago, J Francho said: Best hook for the that bait! Don't swap it out. LOL... Made my day with that one:) I'll rig both the J-Wills and Keitech's too. Quote

It holds the grub; keeps it from slipping down the hook. I use pieces of paperclip for the same thing, but toothpicks might just make more sense. Josh Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 28, 2016 Super User Posted April 28, 2016 Toothpick keeps the bait from sliding, and helps the bait make it through a few fish, instead of just ripping after one. 1 Quote

JRammit Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Ive had this happen too, always at the end of a retrieve when im not paying attention and have no time to react... Best i can think, finish this retrieve before thinking about the next cast.... But thats easier said than done Worst time was in a foot of muddy water.. I couldn't see the fish, but i know it was big cause i could see the trail of mud it kicked up in a zigzag pattern away from my boat, and a couple of free standing weeds almost came uprooted as fish plowed through them..... Reminded me of Jurassic Park, when the raptors are running through the jungle but all you see are the trees moving Quote
blckshirt98 Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Don't set the hook straight back so if you miss the strike or if the fish grabs the tail and it pulls and rips out of it's mouth, it doesn't go flying directly into you. I learned this the hard way fishing at night off a jetty when I got snagged - I pulled straight back to free my rig, and I got it free, but my 1/2 oz weight hit me literally on the bridge of my nose between my eyes. I thought I might have broken my nose or cracked my glasses. Fortunately I didn't get a hook in the face. Quote
avidone1 Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 I think for anything with treble hooks a medium power rod is usually the best choice. for most single hook applications I'll go with medium heavy. whenever I feel or see a bass bite I set the hook. I don't believe in waiting at all. some live baits may be a different story , but I rarely use them 20 hours ago, J Francho said: Toothpick keeps the bait from sliding, and helps the bait make it through a few fish, instead of just ripping after one. Yes, and there great for pickin the jerky from yer teef On 4/28/2016 at 0:08 PM, jesseTrips said: It was the one that got away (I'm sure they'll be more;). I'm wasn't too bummed though. It has just motivated me. I know they're in there now! Just hoping this doesn't become an obsession, ha, good luck with that, lol. Apologies on the rod name drop. Didn't know that was a no-no. I'll keep it generic here on out. Happy to be on board and greatly appreciate all the advice and camaraderie. We are not allowed to name specific rods we use? I don't understand......This is a bass forum. How is discussing the equipment we use not part of the conversation? Quote

Of course you are, and if it's the one company that gets replaced with "***" when you post, then you'll know that's the one that wants nothing to do with us. I use St. Croix, G.Loomis, Shimano, Daiwa, Pinnacle, Okuma, Fenwick, and Browning rods. See - that was easy! Quote
avidone1 Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Whew! I was quite confused seeing as how we have forums devoted to rods, reel, lures, and tackle Can't understand why any manufacturer wouldn't want their product discussed here at BR unless it's total garbage and constantly getting dissed Quote
